I have used just about every alpha and beta driver out there with varying results but the one consistancy has been zero help with WMV HD. Most of the dets newer than the 61.77's have caused IQ issues in full screen mode, and stuttering issues with DIVX/XVID, the 70.90 fixed that for me *the 71.20's work perfectly here too. Again though, the consistant factor has been playback of the SIL trailer is identical regardless.
This is where it gets interesting, I have been testing on my dual Opteron@1.725ghz system and when playing the trailer would drop hundreds of frames with both CPUs showing a max of 55% CPU usage, this using just about every driver from 66.71 till now. All my testing on this system is being done with MP10 and nVDVD 2.0.
Well, I just played it with the 71.20's and the CPU usage exceeded 60% at times during playback and I only dropped 34 frames consistantly in the same spots on 3 runs with reboots in between. To add to the strangeness nVDVD 2.0 will play it but while I can hear the audio and watch the playback time progress, there is just a slightly grayer black screen where the video should be.
Please post your results and experiences with these players and the new betas. I am at a loss as to how it could be increasing the balanced CPU load on my boxen and drop so many fewer frames, and why it suddenly does not display the video for this file in nVDVD despite the fact it is obviously playing 😕 I am looking forward to reading speculation by our technically informed members as to what could possibly be going on here if this doesn't turn out to be isolated to just my system.
