I just recieved my PNY 6800NU OEM from newegg 2 hours ago and my desktop icons are garbled and at times my whole desktop . I played CSS&BF2 with no artifacts or reboots . I also heard something fall out of the plastic container that the card was in and noticed that the end of the slot on the card was sticking through the plastic. I didnt see any physical damage to the card though .

sounds like a capacitor broke/fell off the card. You will more than likely have to RMA the card back to newegg.

Yeah I figured thats what it was since I read of a few other reports of pny 6800's with broken capictors . You think newegg would charge me the 15% restocking fee if I decided to go with a different brand of 6800? The 2d with this card is so blurry and I have read other reports of PNY being lousy with 2d.

Well the card seems to be working fine now in my new PC which is a 3000venice and a 9NDA3J. Im getting no garbled icons or other problems . Im a little lost as to if I should RMA it do to the fact that I found the piece that I heard fall and seen where its missing on the card. Heres a pic of what fell off PIC. So should I RMA it? I think the garbled icons could of been an issue with my via motherboard.

One fell off of mine too. If you look at the screw hole on the left side in the middle, there are a series of resistors to the left (big - medium - big) the one closest to the screw hole was just rattling around in the box.

Of course I didin't realize this until after I had already been testing the card. It didn't unlock but it seems to be ok in all tests, so I decided to go ahead and keep it. I soldered back on the loose part and reinstalled the card.

There's a thread about PNY on the second or third page of the video card section in the hardforum. Those were complaints about their old Ti4200. I feel sorry for people who buy PNY.
I would return it and try to find a model like Gigabyte or Asus etc. I'm not an expert, but at least those two have good comments.
