First, a moment of silence for the 5800U, which goes to my four year old to shred some Sponge Bob and Spiderman.

I like this card! I haven't done much with it, just UT2004 and web so far, but it is a good step up from the 5800U. Definitely pretty cool to be playing with a whole new architecture.

I can't hear it in my case, a big change.

Ive tried some 10X7 4X8X and 12X10 4X8X, Performance and Quality with settings on High, looks good and good.

I'll get some Far Cry and Painkiller info into this thread a.s.a.p..

Why not he likes different things I was considering the 6800 just cause its different than my 9500 pro and obviously atleast 2x faster. Where did you get it from Rollo? I am looking at the evga one for 299 that comes with Far Cry. How far does it OC and how much does it improve performance? THX

Sooner or later, I imagine I will. Won't be for $100 above MSRP though! ;)

It is nice you like your "feeble" 6800 ;) It cant stand up to the 6800U and x800xt, so it is feeble :)

It's not feeble at the pricepoint it's at. ($300)
;)
(I assume you're making a fairly amusing joke about how guys have been telling me about how my 5800U is "inferior" and "feeble" because it's not a 9800XT? )

I don't usually OC video cards JBT, mainly because I won't RMA due to failure and I want them to be in mint shape when I sell them.

I'd say $299 for this card with Far Cry is a steal and should be much faster than your 9500P. The review I link to in the other post usually has the 6800 between the 9800XT and the X800Pro.

OK so this thing costs $299...is it 50% faster than a 9800PRO? If so then it's a good deal. I want some Far Cry and UT2004 benches at high-rez w/ 4XAA/8XAF. Maybe even a 3Dmark03 score for arguement's sake. :)

Rollo, you should be reviewing video cards for a living. You've probably used 75% of the high-end graphics cards sold over the past year or two.

I'm gonna nitpick. It's just 6800, *not* 6800NU. The GT is also a 6800NU if you were follow the logic in that naming scheme. Anyway, enjoy your card.

Anyone interested in the 6800 with an upgraded heatsink that covers the memory and Far Cry for $299 here is the link.

Rollo, so does your 4 yr old having bragging rights on the playgound now? I bet they are the only one with a fabled dustbuster in the bunch and I bet if owns some Spongebob...

I will certainly be interested to hear your thoughts on your new 6800 as you have a bit more time to check it out. Reviews are good, but someone who isn't afraid to give some honest appraisal (like CaiNaM did with his X800 Pro) on stuff they actually own is better IMO. I like to know how hardware "feels", not just the numbers.

That's the first I've heard of an "upgraded" heatsink. I haven't seen any 6800 that comes with that rinky dink crap heatsink they're showing. I think every 6800 gets the "upgrade" On the other hand, Far Cry is a *very* nice pack-in.

I don't know about the youngster's bragging rights, some yuppie kids get their first Lincoln Navigator before they're 4 these days...
;)

I just ordered a Thermaltake XaserIII V2000 case, I'm going to fdisk when it gets here, start fresh and do some benching.

I'd be more than happy to tell you how the gaming feel is, I know what you mean by that. My first 5800NU surprised me in UT2003 because I knew it was a slower card than the 9700Pro I had replaced it with, yet it somehow felt smoother.

It's driving me NUTS. A video card should sound like your hairdryer, for Pete's sake!

I agree with you I think most will have a decent one but not all...
So far, Leadtek is the first one to become available with a unique non-stock cooler. I wonder if it's better, worse, or just different...

Good to see the 6800 making it to the retail channel though, that Chaintech has been up and listed as in stock for a while on Newegg now. Of course it's overpriced.

I love my Leadtek, really looking forward to getting a 6800NU from them with their inventive cooling and O/C it like mad. However, I'm not getting it at 360 either

And what's with newegg they usually have fair prices on everything but they are gouging on these next-gen cards.

I can't wait for these things to hit mainstream. Most companies don't have a 6800nu yet. Just the Ultra. Im waiting for newegg to load up on um, hopefully get another black t-shirt.

Rollo, you have a 'friend' at nvidia, and he just now let you use a card... not much of a friend. hold'in out like that! :frown: watchin you toke swag (5800), when he's got that ooey gooey, sticky wicky. ;) :)
