check firingsquad benchies then ,they recently did 7600GT AGP VS 6800GT, you should get similar results. Or do the FEAR benchmarks, they also show about 15-20% improvement, or ask anybody who has owned both.

Anyway...I think this is all pointless with the $164 x1950 pros out there faster than all listed and about middle in price.

are you saying x1950 Pro can outperform 7900gs?

Yes by quite a bit.. (this is the 256MB card, the one I pointed you to @164 in newegg links..they also make a 512MB which is a bit faster still but you don't want that one..poor bang for the buck IMO)

Edit another comparo I found

Edit 2: The only reason to buy a 7900GS or 7900GT right now is to overclock since they overclcok so well or if you just have to have NV (like me):)

hmmmm there maybe 15% at the most between a 6800GT and 7600GT...but it's still not really worth upgrading to one unless you can get the 7600GT dirt cheap, there are much better Video cards out there for not much more than a 7600GT.

hey I just realised something...Akshayt is actually doing research now before posting.....he's learning....

i missed out a 'T' in my initial post

Anyways, my my 6800GS comes at a 6800GT crushing core/mem speed just at stock, throw in a bit of overclocking and i would say it comfortably ahead of a Ultra..which compares pretty favourably with a 7600GT...

The point being, what the OP suggests is not an upgrade to anyone sane.

No dude, from the latest benchies I saw a 7600GT was crushing the 6800Ultra pretty badly. For proof, check firingsquad and toms

IIRC the toms benchies only show the 7600GT beating the ultra in some games, and vice versa in others. i guess i should look at them again ;)

Or if the price difference between a 7900GS and 7950GT/X1950Pro is over $100 in Canada.

Ahaha 13 vs. 10 fps makes HUGE difference

Simply upgrade makes no sense, bacause gain with playable FPS is non-existing.

Well, in heavy intensive games like Oblivion and Fear the beating is quite the 20 or 35%, in other not so heavy games, the difference is not that pronounced, anyways, the upgrade doesn't worth it, better going off to a 7900GS/GT or Radeon X1950GT/PRO

I went from a 6800GS to X1950XT a few weeks ago when my GS died - I wanted to wait for DX10 mid-range stuff, but I was forced to play my hand earlier than I would've liked :(.

(But the difference is enormous)
