6800GT (SLI later) or X850Xt PE

I am wondering if I should upgrade my system (currently P4 2,4C at 3,2 GHz) with a Radeon 9700Pro to a PCIe System at first place or get a X800XT AGP card. But I dont want to change it again in 6 months.

If thats not a good option, I was thinking about getting the Asus SLI board and either a 6800GT now and maybe a second one later or don`t care about SLI for the moment and get a X850XT PE. I have read a lot of different opinions so I am not sure whats the best option at the moment. Also the benchmark at Tomshardware did not clarify the situation.

the radeon will perform better at higher resolutions overall and will be cheaper than 2 gts. sli does not work in all games, so make sure the games you play are supported
