6800GT question

I want to buy the 6800 GT model. Is there a real difference in the brand? XFX, Pony, MSI etc.? I have heard MSI is good but will it really matter?

Thanks!

you can buy XFX if you want dual dvi, but i highly recommend you dont. XFX has many horrors with customer service and QC.

BFG has a lifetime warranty which is always nice and a good QC record to boot. Reference cooler(some early models have the horrid 6800nu style 2 fan cooler. Do not be tricked by this, it is NOISY, High pitched and 2x likely to fail since there's 2 small fans. Dosent cool well either.)
Leadtek has better QC albeit no awesome warranty, but a nice and quiet cooler one you remove a mesh dustblocker. The cooler is dual slot though so it is quite massive.
EVGA has Better QC than BFG but not as good as leadtek but has a trade up program. Uses a reference cooler.
Msi is pretty good all around. Uses a semi modified reference cooler.
Gigabyte is good quiet coolers generally
PNY is just barely better than xfx. reference cooler.

PONY? isnt that a clothing brand?

you might want to wait a little while because the price drop unless your on agp, if your on agp id just go for the cheapest its not going to make that much of a difference. if you have the extra to spend bfg is always my favorite company along with leadtek. if your on pci-e i wouldn't go with the leadtek just in case you want sli later depending on your motherboard

BFG & Leadtek is pretty much all i'd buy. BFG life-time warranty, REAL 24/7 tech support, O/C'd right out the box and i like Leadtek's quality and step-up program

BFG, EVGA, Leadtek, Asus.

Only makes I would recommend to you.

Had very terrible experiences with MSI, and heard enough horror stories about XFX.

leadtek has a step-up program too?

i'm partial to evga with their great support, tight pricing and their step up. also, their 1+1 year warranty is more than i'll ever need.

I've had no problems at all with my PNY 6800GT, but other people probably have. If I decide to go for Nvidia next round, I'll probably go for BFG or eVGA though...

oh yeah, forgot to add, i have a still perfectly functional ASUS card from 4-5 years ago running on my primary pc(Geforce2 Ultra), i'd put them above average. They tend to use reference heatsinks,. but customer service is average. QC is great though.

Personaly, id get a BFG. Cant beat a lifetime warranty. Just means itll be that much easier to resell when you upgrade. And yes, some of the 6800's have some cooling issues, but so what, if it messes up it has a lifetime warranty. Send it in and get a newer revision that fixes the problem. I wouldnt touch pny, xfx, or msi. Id pick either gigabyte, asus, BFG, evga or maybe leadtek. Altho evga only has 1 year warranty I believe, leadtek might have the same.
