Okay, so I really wanted to pick up the eVGA because I haven't read or heard anything bad about eVGA. I've heard generally good things about the BFG, but I've still got my heart set on the retail eVGA. (And I have no idea why.....)

But of course, you can't find it anywhere for a decent price, unless it's OEM. And knowing how these online retailers can be, who knows if it's REALLY in stock, anyway.

So...am I an idiot for holding out on the eVGA until I can get the retail box at a reasonable price? Or should I just get the BFG, which is easier to find and consistently cheaper?

I can get an in-stock retail box eVGA on eBay right now for $489, but that's a lot of dough....

I heard that, too....and then I heard that the price/availability issues weren't expected to be resolved until the second half of 2005....WTF?

Along those same lines, I also heard that Duke Nukem Forever is slated for a Spring 2005 release. :p

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on the price drop. So any thoughts? Is eVGA really worth the extra dough or should I just get the BFG? Just wondering what other folks have done.....I know XFX isn't high on many lists....

IMO if you can get the BFG for cheaper (what prices are you seeing?), I'd just go for it. I don't really think you can go wrong with either BFG or eVGA.

Edit: There's a thread in the Hot Deals forum with a link to an eVGA 6800GT PCI-E for $410, the caveat being that it's an OEM. I'd probably call them to check and make sure the warranty is the same or similar, and if it is, I'd go for that. (Well, that is, if I hadn't decided to keep my AGP 6800GT and save my money :p)

On average, the eVGA cards are tough to find, but running between $465-$510. BFG cards are more plentiful and generally in the area of $430-$450.

I'm sure I can't really go wrong with a BFG, but for some reason I've got eVGA on the brain. Any thoughts on why that might be? They're both pretty high on the list of nVidia manufacturers, aren't they?

As far as I know, they're both near the top, yes. I've actually never had personal experience with either, aside from testing a monitor with a friend's BFG 6800OC. I actually have a PNY one in AGP, since I found a deal on it for $337 last July. It's my understanding that PNY isn't one of the better brands, but it was a great price and it works for me. :)
