For £1 extra i can have the X800XT over an asus 6800GT. Now this may seem like a stupid question to which one to buy buy for value for money sake however i want to know what you people would go for regarding games sake?
Whose telling u to buy the ASUS 6800GT. Its been given a stupid 1 slot cooler and the only thing exciting about it is the LED. You will get a nice package with the ASUS but its useless to buy it.
Ur mentioning X800XT so it must be PCI-E. My bet is to go for the X800XT, it will be faster except in Doom 3.
Also X800XT can support VIVO while no 6800GT will.
You haven't mentioned the X800XT brand, i recommend going for HIS or Sapphire Toxic series.
Both cards are AGP flavour. The XT is sapphire tech however i will be replacing the cooler with my Zalman VF700-CU. I heard all the ATI boards are manufactured from the same place the only difference in brands is the coolers fitted. The reason i looked at asus for a 6800GT solution is only for the name itself. I know with asus products you get excellent quality gear but its very expensive. If i can find a card £30 cheaper would it be worth buying the 6800GT over the radeon? Or would spending £30 - £40 more on the XT be worth it especially with my system specs?
Paadness, he lives in the United Kingdom and thus cannot buy from Newegg. And he's asking which card he should buy OF THE TWO HE STATED.
If you play a lot of HL2, x800XT... if not, 6800GT. Either way your performance is going to fly and the few differences shouldn't make you sway back and forth too hard.
Especially if the rumors about Cat 5.6 are true and the performance margins in the few areas where the X800XT trails the 6800GT have narrowed. Well, we'll all know in a few days.
Its a toss up, it depends on what you play, for OGL games or doom3 based games your better off w/ a 6800GT, for D3D and most other games your better off w/ the X800XT, so depending on what you play take your pick.
X800XT will outperform the 6800GT in 95% of games but by a small margin, hardly noticeable while playing. but since its just 1pound more definetely get the XT.
XT, regardless of SM 3.0 not supported
XT, like someone mentioned earlier has better futures. But even if it's not as fast in one or two games like Doom 3, etc, compared to the GT, it will still give you blistering frame rates.
I have to admit, that XT does sound so much cooler than GT (sounds like sports cars)
Personally, the companies prolly made up XT in a way to make it sound like the drug, ecstasy (no?)
Sorry to bump an old thread, but would the consensus still remain about the same? Would people generally recommend the x800XT over the 6800GT? Talking strictly AGP.
My budget is absolute max $350, preferably more like 300. I want a 2 year minimum warranty.
I think it's between these two cards, but if there are other better ones, please let me know.
My system is:
A64 3200+ socket 754 on ASUS K8V Deluxe
1 gb cheap DDR400
Nvidia is releasing new cards in about 2.5 hrs, and with that, perhaps the cutbacks they announced will be realized, even if it is the AGP sector. Hence, the price of your 6800GT may be significantly lower than the price you are seeing now in about a week or so.
Then there is the r520, which was supposed to come out like... ages ago so I wouldn't bother too much with waiting for it.
I did get my AGP X850XT PE for 340+shipping = 358. And that card is substantially better than a 6800GT. Not much different than a X800XT though. O you could also look at the refurb deal going on at ATI. Just look under their site. No idea when that will be available in stock though since demand seems to be ridiculously high.
