You don't understand all that PS3 is. Read some more about it.

Maybe he is not an expert, but he knows that SM3.0 features (HDR and soft shadows) as in splinter cell, riddick and Far cry make nvidia cards like crap (or slower than ATI).

And? SM3 isn't what makes those games run slow with SS and HDR. There are way more features in SM3 that can, if utilized, dramatically increase performance.

Compare the fps of the gf6 cards with and without sm3 in Farcry. While in general sm3 does offer increased performance, it's not anything I'd call dramatic, most of the time it's only a few fps more. While it's obviously better to have sm3 than not have it, when the price difference is $50, you have to weigh your options.

There's no denying, however, that on the 6xxx cards performance takes a significant hit once HDR and sm3-exclusive eye candy is enabled, so you decide if the trade off is worth the price difference.

I have a chance to pick up this x800 XL from Dell for $230.96 ($307.95 - 25% off):

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod...n&cs=04&category_id=2999&page=external

or go with one of these two cards:

or

Now I've seen the scores, and the x800 XL edges out the 6800 gt in many things. The only things it doesn't have is the ps3 support.

If any of you guys could provide some help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I currently have a
MSI 9800 pro 128meg
AMD 64 3200+
corsair 1 gig ram
epox nforce 3 motherboard

where do you see the $230?
i only see it as 277.

Then why is there no 1 game that runs faster on 6800Ultra with sm3.0 vs. x850xt pe with sm2.0? The performance increase is there (ie Far Cry, but it's like 5%).

I think Farcry runs faster on a 6800 GT with SM3 than it does in the x800 pro/x850 pro/x800 XL though.

It's kind of a tie with the XL though.

6800gt overclocked beats a x800xl overclocked in every benchmark. For about the same price why would you buy the x800xl ? Makes no sense.

Because he posted that he can get X800XL for $50 cheaper. If it was the same price, there wouldn't be a discussion right now.
