6800GT or 6800Ultra for 30$ more

i can get the 6800gt 256mb pci-e card (asus en6800gt) for 265 us$

should i shell out the extra 30$ for the 6800ultra card or not? the ultra is the "msi nx6800 ultra".
the msi ultra is a 2 slot reference model with a big fan, the asus gt is single slot.

from what i have read the gt oc's great but the ultra hardly oc's. in the end when i would oc both i think the ultra would still be a little bit faster but also more noisy.

which one do you guys think i should get, the asus gt or the msi ultra?

I think you should get a 7800GT instead of either one... I could have sworn somone had a link to one that cost $276 after rebate yesterday & its a MUCH faster card.... no-brainer IMO.

thanks but...for me the 7800gt will cost 420 us$ and i dont want to spend more than 300$ on a graphics card
im not in the usa i just calculated the numbers to us$
options for buying a decently priced graphics card are VERY limited here (i'm in taiwan would u believe it)

im tempted to go for the fat 2 slotter yes....im just a bit worried it will turn my pc into an airplane noise-wise
is the ultra really that much faster?

Its enough faster that its worth spending $30... I have a 6800GT that OC's to Ultra levels but they won't all do that, plus lots of Ultras DO overclock pretty well, especially newer ones... if it was $100+ like when i bought my card I'd say forget it & go with the GT.

He has the money for the Ultra, so that'd be the best card for him.
As for the slot cooler, single or dual would be fine. I dont think it'd make that much of a difference.

thats what i would do, practically equal performance to a gt and it can be oc'ed and faster than a ultra plus you can get it for around $200

just get the 6800gs and save youself the extra $50-150.

I used to have a 6800 Ultra and noise was never that much of a problem. My X800XTPE is much louder, especially under load.

the gs is not available here in taipei yet (unless ordered from the usa online shops but i have not found one that ships to taiwan)
gs prolly has the best price/performance ratio cuz it oc's great and is hella cheap.
now that i know the double slot fan wont make my pc airborn i will get the 6800 ultra i think, thanks for the insights guys
