Today I replaced my defective Chaintech 6600GT with an EVGA 6800GT and all of a sudden my computer is running like a paraplegic.
Video Card Performance
This morning, I opened up my case and took out the old 6600GT without uninstalling the drivers. I was in a rush but it was the last day that I could RMA it. I wasn't expecting my 6800GT to come today but UPS ended up dropping it off this afternoon.
I installed the card, uninstalled the old drivers (nvidia 76.41) and replaced them with XG 76.50 drivers. I ran some benchmarks just to make sure everything was kosher but the results were a bit disturbing.
I scored ~4100 in 3dmark05 which is around 1000 points lower than the average 6800GT. When I set it to 1280x1024 w/ 4xAA and 8xAF, I scored in the 2000's, less than comparable configs at 1600x1200.
What could the problem be? Do you think it's the new drivers? I'm going to revert back to my old ones and test again.
Video Card Overclocking
My 6800GT won't overclock well at all either. It runs fine when I "detect optimal settings" (375/1040) in the nvidia menu but when I try to do it manually, it gives me this:
Most people can easily get over 400 but I'm getting stuck at 375. It just won't let me set it any higher. Is there any way to ignore it and force the clocks over or should I just listen and simmer down? Idle and load temps are 50° and ~73°.
It allows me to set my memory to 1100 though. There's no issue there. What's the worst that could happen with this? Just artifacting? If so, I won't worry.
