Also, COMPUSA sucks... 15% restocking fee, even if incompatible. Crappy policies. I try to avoid them if at all possible.

Maybe you should learn what you're buying first then. Or come to good ol' Anandtech eh?

The policies are in place because people take advantage of the company so much dude, besides it should be a case by case basis on the restock fee, I waive it all the time!

You may waive it, but many don't and are total jerks about it. A 15% restocking fee is ridiculous for a retail store, especially on sealed items.

Well the shipping 24-48 hours thing was BS. Now they're saying sometime next week. Just got off the phone with them.

Heh, 10 left for delivery! Grab it if you want it?
I'd rather go with the XFX card in the other deal to avoid taxes. $409 + (~$5 shipping) compared to $428 (after taxes).

i went to fry's the other day, they didn't have any bfg's in stock but there were plenty of other brands. i don't think these cards are necessarily on a very high demand, except perhaps large metropolitan areas where gaming is very common. it just seems like people are scavenging for a deal to save them five bucks online, when they could drive to Fry's (unless you don't have one) and pick one or two up.

Yes, it depends on location, I wasn't scavenging for a deal, I wanted to get something, anything, as soon as possible, and I called or walked in to all the local stores and none of them had it, even though some of them, like fry's, had promises they'll have it on so- and so day next week, and even offered to call me when it gets in. Obviously, they never called back. So finally I got it online from a website that had it in stock and ready to ship, and paid a little more. Mind you, if you get it from a local store at msrp you are indeed saving money compared to getting it onlne as the online price averages $450 for the smaller stores. So you are lucky if you're in an area where you could find it on the shelf in a store. I mean, even here the stores do seem to get a shipment in from time to time, but it goes very fast, so we are still in a shortage situation, and who knows how long it would be like that. Certainly, the performance provided by these new video cards is nothing short of amazing, as they provide the ability to run any game available at the highest resolutions with maximum details and quality settings, and the rave reviews confirm that. This combined with the fact that the second part of this year is the biggest in history for video game releases, may not bode well for the supply and demance balance in the near term. On the other hand, if you are willing to wait a few months, I think that once pci express becomes the mainstream, there will be big discounts on the agp cards, since all new pcs sold system builders will only use pci express, thus only upgraders will buy the agp cards, or private people building a new pc on non-pci-express platform, which may be the smart thing to do, since pci express does not provide any performance gain currently.

Is it GT's in general that are in demand? Or is there a certain brand people are trying to get?

GTs themselves are in very high demand right now.
For example, PNY has ok warranty, but not the best, but they sell out really fast when they are instock.
Compusa just yesterday had 100+ instock online for delivery.
Today they sold out.
Also all online stores that don't have exaggerated prices sell out their cards extremely fast.

Just talked to CompUSA, they got 3 in and 2 customers were there to grab the first 2, I called just in time and I will be picking up the card in an hour and cancelling my online order.

Persistance ends Resistance

BTW,
I was at Frys today and was told that a batch of 6800's is coming in as tsome other stores have recieved them already, these will be the 256MB version and not the 128mb stuff they have in stock now.

check ebay. least expensive ones ive seen are 420 + 15 ship. Most are ending closer to 500!!

Retail is relative, 399 for 16 pipeline card of this quality is a deal.

I've got one reserved in an upstate store, headin up there after work to pick it up.

Played some more d3 today and i need this card bad. (9700 pro)

Im also excited to crank up the settings on some old favorites, farcry, halo, city of heroes..

400 is alot, but i did that laptop tradein and got 225 for my old 333p2 lap that weighed about 12lbs.

so my total is about 200...

Yeah its weird how the full price of something at cusa is a deal, but ive been searching nyc stores for a month and havent had any luck.

I agree 400 is like a great deal right now (immdiate delivery). But there are a few sub-400 offers out there for people willing to wait an indefinte amount of time, basically lock in a "low" pre-order price. The catch is that by the time your pre-order arrives, either the store will change the pre-order price on you, or it will be generally available for the same price elsewhere. So for now msrp is just about the best deal around.

btw, did anyone get theirs shipped as the website mostly (on and off) says they're in stock and ship in 24-48 hours ?

PNY actually just changed their warrenty policy on video cards. Instead of their crap manufacturing lifetime one they had before, its now a 3 year warrenty if u register on their website.

did anyone who got their card for compusa recently get one that says 6800 only on the heatsink sticker but everything else indicates it's a 6800gt. My card has this. It's a 6800gt but says 6800 on the heatsink sticker. drivers pick up as 6800gt and UPC on card says 6800gt. It just worries me. I also worry about resell value when I have to explain that it's a 6800gt.
