Should be fine, even my X700Pro with an A64 3200+ performs very well at a resolution slightly below what you are aiming for with some AA/AF enabled.

I was able to push 1600x1200 with 2xAA and 4xAF with a 6800GT. Though I got the 7800GT just before ep1 came out. So I don't know how HDR would effect a 6800GT.

I believe I ran the lost coast time demo with everything up and on the 7800GT (with a 2.4GHz A64) at and around 70FPS avg.

without FSAA or HDR enabled, but max detail and what not..

1600x1200 on this system was *smooth as hell* in CSS, and Half-Life 2:

Amd athlon XP 2200+
1.5 gigs ddr400 ram (valueram)
ATI 9800 pro

While I sold off my 6800GT before HL Ep1 was released, I did play Lost Coast with most of the eye-candy cranked up @ 1280x1024 & it played pretty well overall, with only the occasional slowdown & at 1024x768 with all settings maxed out it did very well too. (same RAM & CPU)

6600GT was turned up (2x AA, 4xAF, HDR max) at 1280x1024...no reason why your 6800GT wont play it on 1680x1050.

I guess I'm going to go against the majority here and say a resounding "no".

I have a 6800GT in one of my other systems (a64 @2.5ghz, 1gb mem) and it ceratinly cannot handle HL2 with HDR @ 1680x1050. It averages about 25fps, which for a shooter is not nearly adequate for me.

it does fine @ 1280x800, but starts struggling at 1440x900, and is unplayable at 1680x1050.

it will play at that resolution by not using HDR and turning down some options, or will play fine at 1280 with HDR and higher quality settings, but it certainly doesn't do well with HDR and quality settings @ 1650....

After playing this game for a few days now I am going to have to agree. At 1680x1050 with HDR and no AA there was frequent stuttering. I haven't run FRAPS to gauge the FPS but, the minimum frame rate must be dropping below 30fps. Last night I dropped the res down to 1600x900, 2xAA, HDR, other settings on high and it's barely playable.
