6800GT + CS:S = NOT impressed!

My BFG 6800GT runs around 70°C idle. That's no additional overclocking.

Strange because my AMD Athlon 64 3000+ chip runs at 34°C average with no overclocking.

I think there is something wrong with the 6800GT heatsink or there is something wrong with the drivers. They are the latest BTW. (71.93 <- something like that)

Any suggestions on how to decrease temps would be great.

3dmarks look good, any other games causing issues like this? Might I suggest uninstall / re-install HL2/CS:S, something may have got screwed in a patch or whatever. Another person mentioned checking backround apps, thats another thing you should definately check out. Otherwise, its too bad, this 9800pro stock speeds pushes that game great, max detail 2xaa 2xaf 1024x768 at around half the 3dmarks... (03' / 05')

Thank you for the reply.

I'm glad to know the temps are safe. I'm a little lost though on the whole mojo thing. Are you saying there isn't a way to fix it?

Thanks. 🙂

Actually, you may actually have to reinstall windows 🙁 We have been running into many strange problems with CS:S on my campus, and usually just reinstalling HL2 doesn't help, it takes the whole enchilada. Good luck though!

Oh, and to address my earlier post, my performance has gotten *much* better after moving to a 6800Ultra, I can now run at 1400*1050 all the time with 4xAA and 8xAF and never drop much below 50 fps, most of the time it is screaming at 100+.

i dont understand some of ur guys posts.

im running an A64 3500 and an X800XT nothing overclocked with a gig of ram. some of u guys with ur 6800gts are saying that u NEVER stoop below 70 fps.

in CSS i have all settings to max with 2xAA and 2xAF and i go below 70. i dont know what my average is. im also running at 1024x768 cause my monitor is poo.

i get 5600+ in 3dmark05

what SHOULD my average fps be in CSS on say dust and what would u think should be my LOWEST framerate?

also... my settings in ati settings or wtv its called are maxed to performance, (all the way to the left) is it even possible that im getting less than 100 fps all the time rofl?

I've tested a x800xt and a single 6800GT (even tho i have sli), and the gf6 is the better playable card in real world gaming for HL2/CSS.
much smoother overall.

you dont have anything wrong spamdini, ATI did not do enough things to boost the X800s and enough to hurt the GF6 performance IMO

actually it think i just fixed it
i had pccillin by trend micro and supposedly if u use that and firefox ur cpu usage goes thru the roof, anyway my subsciption thingy ended so i uninstalled it and now everything is ultra i rarely go below 80.

Same thing happens to me on my 6800 with 4aa/8af. I just bumped it down to 2aa/8af and its alright. CS:S probably would work better with a x8xx card.
