6800GS vs. 7600GT vs. x850XT

Currently, I'm running with intergrated graphics. Obviously, the integrated graphics doesn't do me justice. I've come down to three cards in the midgrane: the 6800GS the x850 and the 7600. I'm not sure which one I should get. Both the 7600 and x850 beats the 6800. But the 7600 is only 128-bit. As for the x850, i haven't heard a lot of good stuff about it. It's loud but takes up two slots

Any suggestions??

P.S. My power supply does not support the 7800GT, since that cards requires 450watts.

well, i'm not sure if it beats the x850. but, what is the difference between a 128-bit card and a 256-bit card?

Any PSU "Requirements" you see are always recommendations, so it's very possible you can run a 7800GT.

Hell, i've seen SFF PCs with a "250w" PSU run 6800 ultras, and I doubt the 7800GT draws more power than that.

7600gt, draws less power than the x850xt, +SM 3.0

not sure, AFAIK there are no reviews comparing the two, but they should be similiar in performance

get a X800GTO2 for like 180 and then unlock and OC' it to x850XTPE like im doing.... save money and it works just fine....

X850XT's can be bought for $160 off newegg now

The XFX XXX (high clocked) 7600GT is on sale at the egg for $200. Thats what I suggest.

Or you could get a new PSU.

7600GT, less power, SM3.0, at least equal if not faster than X850XT and ~189 on newegg

If upgrading now, no reason to not get SM3.0 this late in the game.

X850XT is quite a bit faster, right? 16 pipes versus 12 pipes and 256-bit versus 128-bit memory. Core clocks are pretty close to equal as well, although the 7600GT's memory speeds are a lot faster. SM3 doesn't matter very much.

People, the days of defining video cards just by a few specs on paper are over. It should have been accepted in the days of 6600gt vs 9800pro.

The 6800gs is close in performance to x850xt, and the 7600gt is significantly faster than the 6800gs. It also probably draws around half of the power of either of the two last generation cards.

It is around the same price, is quieter, more efficient, faster, and newer. I dont see any reason not to choose the 7600gt, unless you must have ATI drivers and IQ.

so pretty much, its either the 7600 or the x850. what about the x800 since you could oc it to a x850?? would the card need additional cooling???

I am in a similar situation as you. I don't understand what 128 vs 256 means in real world performance. What matters to me is how it will affect FPS, and how long it will last (although I know it can't be too long term)

In reviews it appears that it is a great performing card, despite the 128 bits. I also don't think that the SM3 is a decision factor, its not that big of a deal.

P.S. Where is the 850 XT on newegg...I can't find it although I was there just a few days ago.

You should get the 7900 GT then as it consumes less power then the 6800 GS as evidenced by the power graphs here at Anandtech.
