Got it today, and aside from having to totally rearrange my drive cage due to the insane length of this card in comparison to my old 9600 Pro, it's great! Using the latest beta Forceware drivers (83.60).

I used to get 3100 in 3DMark 03 and about 1000 in 05 with my 9600 Pro. The card unlocked all pipelines and the extra vertex processor, so I'm running 16/6 with no artifacts. I have not tried to overclock it yet. The BFG comes at 370/1050, so I'm hoping to get to 400/1100 and essentially have a 6800Ultra. Anyway, now in 3Dmark, I get:

3DMark03: 10,700 (stock)
11,853 (unlocked)
3DMark05: 4520 (stock)
5157 (unlocked)

I'd love to get 06, but I am on a crappy dial-up connection, and I'm not downloading a 100+MB benchmark.

Anyway, I'm happy. I'm going to run it at stock speeds for a week or so to make sure the previously disabled pipelines are good to go, then I'll see how far I can push it. :)

That's great, my numbers are very similar. Same card, similar setup. So we can rest assure that we are on par with what we should be getting in benchmarks.
I upgraded from a 5900xt, and it seems like a huge leap.

Sorry for the hijack, but nVidia should have just made a 7800GT AGP! Or they could have at least made it unlockable, like the X800GTO2. What a waste. It does look a bit more apealing now the price is $300.

...anway, congrats for the unlock. ;)

not all 6800gs unlock, and some people dont want to hassel... not everyone is a tech junkie like us... and 7800 can clokc higher and run on less gas

the PICe version uses the NV42 110nm core, the 6800gs AGP uses a NV40 130nm core

Grats sir. I have this card since late January and it is well worth the money.

I too unlocked but unfortunately, my pipes are broken so i can't overclock this little beast.

My scores:

3Dmark05: 5276 (unlocked)
3Dmark06: 2419 (unlocked)

I think its safe to say most PC users dont overclock so there is a real need for something like the 7800GS or a manufacturer that sells an overclocked card. I think its great that you can unlock a 6800GS but its good to have something for those that dont want to or cant do it themselves.

I just got a 6800 vanilla agp(welcome to the 21st century, Tom !)

With everything unlocked 16/6 and overclocked to 360/820 I get

3dmark03 - 11006
3dmark05 - 4385
3dmark06 - 892

I guess the main difference why your GS is faster is the GS has ddr3 memory and at a faster speed, correct ?

And in 3dmark06 I guess it's also 128mb isn't enough and 256 gives a big advantage ?

I would imagine that's the case, Tom. My card comes clocked at stock speeds of 370/1050, so I'm already over 200MHz faster on the RAM.

yea. btw, I didn't mean i expected my card to be as fast, just thought it was kinda interesting how each year's 3dmark, the difference goes from pretty small to really big.

The 7800GS is also for those who build/support boxes for others. They don't have the option of gambling with a 6800GS OC.

Which still doesn't make it a good idea vs. new PCIe motherboard + 7800GT.

Is the AGP 6800 GS different or something or am I missing something here?

I can usually get like 6300 in 05 oc'd

The AGP 6800GS is an NV40 chip with one pixel unit and one vertex shader disabled. You can enable them (with varying degrees of success) with RivaTuner. It seems that the BFG cards (like mine) are quite successful at the unlocking. I know my disable pixel pipes are solid: no artifacts, and I've got it overclocked now (400/1100). So, essentially, I have a 6800 Ultra.

The PCIe 6800GS is a newer chip.
