Someone needs to put out a 6800GS AGP with 256mb RAM, dual-DVI and HDTV-out. That would be a nice, worthwhile upgrade from my current FX5700, and would fend off a full system upgrade for at least a year. Alternatively, I'll take a 7600 with the same specs... I'm not picky, really...

Not sure, but I think this is good news because supplies of AGP 6800GTs were beginning to dry up. Leaving nothing in this performance range in AGP format from Nvidia. Also, since it's nv40, there's always of a chance of unlocking to 16 pipes.

6800GT AGP cards are expensive, even when in mass production, they were north of $250...hopefully the GS will be somewhere near the $200 point of the PCI-E version...

the x800xl AGP was more expense thatn the pci-e version, so i wouldnt be surprised if this was the same case

6800 AGP cards in general are drying up, including nu & GT's. The GS right now is pretty much NVIDIA's best AGP card that is widely available....sad ain't it? 😉
 
The return of agp I really think PCI-E was just a way to force people to get new mobos since the proformace increase is small at best even with this gen of cards.
 
Man and I was THIS close to buy a 6800GT for 289$ in ZZF.

Lets just hope its clocked the same and that overclocking is a possibility.

umm,..more like throwin a bone more than " the return of,.."

kinda like why theres no 5900ultra in pci,...but they sure as sh!t threw a bone to the pci users with the 5200,5500 and 5600,which they went back and did after they made thier money from the agp versions......and is more than they needed to imo

and anyone with agp 6800ultras and GT's and x800xt's and x850xt's wont see this as changing anything



 
if nVidia were to release a 6800GS at $200-$220 price point, not more than $20 extra for agp bridge chip then this is 'something'.

Quite a few anandtech posts saying i want to keep my agp mobo and cpu, just want a agp upgrade. Instead of linking them to $270-$290 x800xl or 6800GT AGP could link to a $220 AGP 6800gs.

The GS is about $80 cheaper though, and about the same speed, give or take a few fps depending on the title and its bottlenecks.

Edit, and if its unlockable, itll be better than the 6800GT for less.
 
Does anyone know what the power requirements are for the card? I only got an Antec 350 watt PS and have 1 DVD burner, and 3 HD's (2 SATA, 1 PATA).

Oh and I finally signed up on here after lurking for a while!
 
I still dont get how 4x died out and 8x is starting to die out way before their potential bandwidth was ever really reached...
