6800GS AGP announced!

Looks like the 6800GS AGP is coming. It is listed on XFX;s website. Also, in the XFX Forum, a user in Germany has already posted. Of course the specs do not nearly match those of the PCI-E variety 🙁

I was looking for some info on the 6800GS AGP and came across this forum. It's really cool - full of great information.

For my first post, I just wanted to say that a system with specs similar to mine is NOT slow at all, and is in fact fast enough for most people to be more than satisfied with - especially with a 6800GT for gaming. I just bought mine for about $200 on eBay to replace my 6800 128 MB unlocked 16/6 overclocked card. This was the right move, especially seeing as how the 6800GS AGP has turned out to be quite a disappointment.

I think the guy with the 3.5 ghz rig and Radeon 9800xt might just be angry that he spent so much money on an overpriced video card when he should have gone with a 9600xt/9800/9800 pro at the time and then upgraded to a 6600gt/6800/6800gt or a comparable card for better gaming during the past year or so. (And the total for those TWO cards would have been around the same price he paid for the 9800xt alone!)

This reminds me of when people with overpriced SCSI drives back in the day used to have similar attitudes, prompting me to come up with: "SCSI = Super Costly Sucker Interface", and "IDE = Inexpensive Direct Easy!" 🙂 Those snobs HATED that! 😉

. . . since i spent $223 for it - new - shipped from NewEgg nearly 2 years ago , i am pretty darn satisfied with my purchase

in fact it was SUCH a good deal - with 256MB vRAM making a noticeable difference in modern games over the regular 9800p - i SKIPPED a full generation . . . thus i a looking for a x1700xt . . . hopefully next month. 😉

Hey, that's me... I'm happy with my "out of date" gaming rig!

I noticed you also have an Antec PSU... I must warn you, nearly everyone on this forum says those things always fail! Odd, since I've been using Antec PSUs for years and never had a problem.

Now lets all get together and march on NVidia and ATI headquarters and get them to release some modern AGP cards!

Wolfshanze, our systems are nearly identical - and they are NOT by any means "out of date."

As for Antec, that's weird because I've only heard good things about Antec power supplies and mine has been totally rock solid for over a year. In fact, for only a 300w power supply it's doing a heck of a job powering my entire system.

Now, I also have an ECS motherboard and I have heard some bad stuff about the ECS brand but this one has worked just fine. My next upgrade for this computer would be to just get a good quality motherboard and overclock my P4 3.0E which can supposedly run at 3.9 ghz on air. Of course, the power supply would need to be upgraded too. If my ECS motherboard or Antec power supply dies that would present me with the perfect opportunity and excuse to upgrade.

Apoppin, that's quite a deal you got yourself... I paid around $140 for my ATI 9800 Pro 128 MB after a $50 ATI trade in rebate for an old video card but it didn't run Doom 3 all that well so I upgraded a few months later and it only cost me about $15, as I actually made some money on the 9800 pro.

If I were you, I would have already sold that 9800xt (maybe you still can?) and get back all or most of your investment, to be applied to something better. You might want to sell it NOW before the 6800GS AGP is officially released, in order to ensure you get the most money.

By the way, I've been an AMD guy since upgrading my Celeron 433 to an Athlon Tbird 900, then popping an 1800+ into the Abit kt7a I was using at the time. I only went Intel because it was such a great deal around a year ago for the P4 3.0e + motherboard for under $200. My first PC computer was a P166 mmx, then I went to the Cel 433. Before the P166 I had an Amiga 500. 🙂

Actually, if it's a gaming rig we're talking about, I tend to agree with him. My system went from "pathetic" to "fine" in games like Far Cry once I upgraded my 9700Pro to an X800Pro.

As for the "modern man" comments, I like to think I game like a modern man. I bought my desk at Ikea during their summer sale. Summer is coming and Rollo is frightened...he needs to go to Ikea. :Q

On XFX's website, their 6800GS AGP is listed at only 350 mhz even though the memory is at 1.1 ghz. This is disappointing, as I had heard before that the XFX brand would be 400 mhz. Considering that their PCI Express "XXX edition" is a full 135 mhz faster at 485 mhz, 350 really sucks:

XFX lists only as 350mhx. Let's hope that XFX will have an "Extreme" version. My XFX 5900XT OCs 492/932 stable all day long playing games.

XFX's own website lists it as 350 mhz! That's what it is, unless they made a mistake which is unlikely.
