6800 Video Problems!!!

I have had my current Chaintech AA6800 for about 6 months now. I love it, and it kills my old 5200 it replaced (obviously). However, this last week I have been having some problems with it. I ran dxdiag, and more specifically the direct3d and directdraw tests. The directdraw ran fine until it got to the full-screen tests. It would start the test, then immediately show a full white screen with a thin vertical yellow line about a third from the left on the screen. It had never done this before, but my games still ran fine, so I ignored it (stupidly). Now, it seems when I do anything (games, full screen video, etc.) in full screen I get this same white screen. Now even my BIOS screen and Windows XP loading screen give this.

Please help, any advice appreciated.


Also worth noting, I have an NV Silencer 5 installed on this (it's been on for 5 months, so it's not the problem), but it does prevent me from RMA'ing the card :-(

I am not overclocked (running at 358/385, stock) and my idle temp is 50C.

Per your signature you're overclocking your card and have it unlocked

What did you use between the NV5 and the core and the memory? AS5? What kind of temps are you running at when it was/is overclocked?

AS5 is what's applied, and yes, I realize now that my sig is not very up to date. I installed the mobo in my sig about a month ago, and have been running stock/locked since then. The temps, even at load, when overclocked before, never got above 70C.

You have pretty high temps. At load I get 50c...from what I heard you're not supposed to put AS5 on the mem chips due to the conductivity of the AS5 but I don't think that would be your problem, but then again, who knows.

I don't think they're that high, as I've seen plenty of others who break 80+ at load. Also, the AS5 has been on the mem chips for 5 months, I don't think that's the issue, as the problem just started this week.

Bump for help, this is really getting frustrating! I tried re-installing drivers, and will reformat if anyone thinks that will help. This is a brand new system, and fairly high-performance, and I'd like it to run at stock, let alone overclocking it!

I bumped down my mem speed to 333, as I've heard some DDR400 sticks have trouble running dual-channel at 400.

Also of note, my Soltek HW monitor in Windows is reporting 11.776V on the 12V rail, could this be causing the issue? is it enough of a deficit to be causing video problems? My rig is in my signature.

Any help greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Sandra reports 11.90V on the 12V rail, is even that enough to cause a problem?

I'm sorry to keep bumping this, but I am at my wits' end! Could it be the PSU causing this? It would be much cheaper to buy a better PSU than replace the video card...

If you are with-in %5 of your rated voltages under-load, your PSU is good. Try re-installing your chipset AGP driver only, then DX9B, then your vid card driver.

Thanks for the reply! I tried everything you mentioned, but I'm still getting the white screen. Now WoW opens, but goes to white screen about 2 mins into play. I alt-tab to windows, and it's fine, then alt-tab back to WoW, and 1 minute in I get a white screen again. This is frustrating.

One other thing, why did you recommend DX9B instead of 9C? I couldn't find a link to 9B, so I re-installed 9C instead.

Any other suggestions?

Make sure your card is secure in its slot.

done that....I have taken it out and re-installed it physically. It's secure, and locked in. I don't know what would cause this....
