6800 vanilla

I want to upgrade my video, eventually with everything else on my system, but I'm not real excited about prices for the x800 pro, xt, or the 6800 ultra. The 6800 can be pre-ordered for $299 now through EVGA. I know everyone is dying to have an XT, ultra, or whatever, but how will the 6800 vanilla card do as compared to a 9800 non pro or pro? I've tried to find some bench marks on it but it seems there only interested in talking about the "heavys".
Do you feel this card will be fine enough for future games? I don't care if it's not the fastest card out there.... I just feel it's obscene to pay $450 for a video card.

The BFG 6800 GT OC is going for $299 pre-order at BestBuy.com at the moment. Link

For more info, see the original post in AT Hot Deals. Hurry 'cuz this won't last.

Doobie

OMG damn I wish I had 300 bucks right now !!!!

I don't, but I have a clean credit card and I'll be able to pay this off by July 1.
I guess I'm going back to Nvidia after all these years with ATI. Now to switch out my intel system and go back to AMD again.

That is an excellent card, and is significantly faster than the plain 12 pipeline 325/700 6800 (which is still faster than 9800Pro in the latest games)

You can read the most up to date review Here

In fact the 6800GT beats X800Pro in most of the benchmarks and is very very close to the 6800U. Since this is the OC edition, it might already be overclocked to Ultra speeds or very close to them. The other major disadvantage of the 6800 is that it only has 128mb of DDR1 memory which makes it memory and bandwidth limited at high resolutions with AA/AF enabled.

Without a doubt this is the best deal of any new generation card from both companies at the moment.

Enjoy!

Wow RussianSensation saying some good things about nvidia products, all I can say is it's a good thing I was sitting down at the time! 😉

Well, the old credit card has a hold on it so I'm looking forward to the beginning of July. Funny how this card has been offered for pre-order for over $400 at other sites.

I told you I am not ATI biased. My answer differs depending on the price level and performance offered.

I thought that was rhetorical. The 6800 should be considerably faster and it should be compared to the X800SE anyway shouldn't it?

Looking at FiringSquad review 6800 looks pretty weak and not worth upgrading over current 9800Pro/XT or 5900/5950. X800pro or 6800 GT is the minimum next gen worth getting IMO. link

So a 6800 vanilla has 128 DDRRAM .. While the 6800GT and 6800U both have 256 GDDR ram. So there in a class by themselves IMO. So since a 9800 has 128 ddr ram, seems their playin ball in the same park.

Is the $100 dollars more for a 6800 worth it for a upgrade?
Cause the x800 pro cost $450 and a 6800gt $400.
Look at these stats for 6800 vs. 6800gt vs. 6900u vs. x800. site
.... interesting. 1st round=Nvidia. 2nd round=Ati. 3rd round=???
................(judges "wow that 6800gt hit HAD to hurt!")
