6800 ultra vs. x1800xt?

I am building a new rig which I will be using for 3D applications(MAYA) and gaming (CS:S).

I wish to softmod the card so that I can use the application specific drivers for 3d apps. I also know that workstation cards are not so good for gaming. So I am looking create a dual boot system with 2 win XP 64-bit installs and then I am plan use one for softmoding and 3D apps and the other install for gaming.

I can buy a geforce 6800 ultra --> quadro fx4000
or I can buy an x1800xt --> fireGL V7100? (not sure which FireGL, but it can be done)
Now here is my question.... which one is a better overall card?

please let me know if anyone here has done this and if so can you post some benchmarks thank you!
 
Again, it's a card that is a generation newer at the high end of it's release cycle. I would be shocked if the Quadro could put up a fight for the fireGL version of those cards.
