Recently I upgraded a radeon 9700 pro to a GF6800 Ultra, and while it superficially works, after running for a few minutes it starts blacking out the screen when moving windows around. As an example, I will drag an IE window to one side of the desktop and then the screen will go black for about a second before coming back - often with some visual corruption of the fonts. I have had a few crashes while running 3D applications as well, although none since I upgraded to the 68 driver.
System setup is as follows :
Athlon 3000+
NF7-S v2 motherboard
2x 512MB Corsair PC-4000 LL
GF6800 Ultra (S-Media, essential nvidia reference board)
Dell 2001FP
2x WD Raptor SATA, RAID-0
2x WD200JB ATA
1x Liteon DVD-RW
Thermaltake 560W power supply
Windows XP Pro, SP2
61.77 Nvidia reference driver
The graphics card is using two separate power lines from the power supply, there is no overclocking of any components, memory timings are set at stable, AGP fastwrites are off, video bios caching is off, IRQ is assigned to VGA. There are no PCI cards in the system, the video card is using IRQ19 and is not sharing it with any other devices.
The problem appears unrelated to card temperature ( it often occurs with card temp ~52 celsius ) or load ( it happens even when the only thing running is firefox and internet explorer ).
Things tried unsucessfully so far :
Clean install of windows
Increasing the 2D clockspeed to match 3D clockspeed (425)
Lowering the 3D clockspeed to match the 2D clockspeed (400)
Upgrading the 61.77 driver to the 68 driver from guru3d
Unplugging archive HDs and DVD-RW just in case it was some weird power issue
Things not tried :
Replacing card BIOS - would prefer to avoid this if I can, as if the issue is hardware related I need to return the card for a replacement.
