6800 Ultra PCI Express cards

exdeath

Lifer
Keep an eye on buyxg.com. I just got a pair of 6800 Ultra PCI Express cards for $569 each which is very reasonable considering the demand and how much other vendors are gouging!

My A8N-SLI should ship out tomorrow, and I will have a pair of Innovatek Coolmatic NV40 waterblocks on Tuesday... going to be a fun week!!

Nice parts exdeath. I've seen your FX-55 system specs. I thought I had a high end parts bug. All I can say is you are one crazy (sigh of envy) motherfu@ker!

Yeah well I had a 1333 TBird and a GeForce 3 on a A7M266 since the day AMD760 and DDR first came out up until just this August with the FX 64 chips and new new graphics cards 😉

It's good to be back in the flow of things again.

Besides I missed out on Voodoo 2 SLI, time to play make up 🙂

Got around to snapping some pics:

Benchmark results taken when I had the FX-53 @ 2.4 GHz, going to wait for the A8N-SLI and get that up and going before I bother benching anything on the FX-55

Whoa, those buyxg cards went fast...
Demand definitely outstripping supply. I'll continue my search for the elusive 6800 ultra and post if I have any luck.

Oh yeah, Aries64, you wanted me to compare SCSI (Cheetah X15) vs SATA (Raptor WD740GD) RAID0 from a previous thread:

I couldn't bench the Cheetah X15 RAID0 in this system like I mentioned before; the Mylex 352 is a tiny bit too long for this case and interferes with the fixed drive cage. The card is a bit big to have free standing on an open board out of case too I think.

I'll have to wait to get a new PSU for my old 1333 machine which has the cheetahs in it currently.

The BX in the eVGA model number is for OEM while AX is retail box I believe.

buyxg.com only had 5 cards total and there were 3 left when I ordered mine on 12/6, so they must have took those 5 cards out of their system build collection since eVGA only seems to be providing OEM cards to system builders at this time.

But if they are in stock, they definately deserve more business, being that they aren't marking them up as high as others.

This is no good. Now with SLI the 6800 Ultras go twice as fast 🙂

NVidia must kinda like this.

let us know how you like the evga cards.

Sorta makes me wish I would have waited a little longer and got the Abit AX8 instead of the AV8 and got a PCIE 6800 Ultra instead of the AGP one. Not that I am going to notice any peformance difference though.

Same here...just bought a BFG GeForce6800 Ultra OC (AGP of course) a few months back. Now I'm not gonna want to upgrade to PCIe for at LEAST 3 months LOL 😉

Whoa... those are going to heatup that Koolance system pretty fast. I will be very interested in what the temp on the CPU will be after you add them.

btw, dont go by the LCD read out, its off. Go by the mobo probe.

The FX-55 at 3.0 alone runs 39C idle and 51C load at the CPU die.

I am well aware of potential coolant saturation issues; I am prepared to add one or two 80mm dual pass radiators internal to the case. I didn't want to do any case modding or change cases to fit any larger radiators.

The 80mm radiators wouldn't be enough on their own, which is why I got the Koolance in the first place. But they should supliment the Exos nicely.

Actually if you look here:

It appears that PCX is the correct abrv. for PCI Express. But your right it's PCX not PCI-X

PCX is what Nvidia is using as an abbreviation for there model numbers. Why they chose to ignore the actual abbreviation I don't know.

Anyway, he was talking about motherboards, not nvidia model numbers. The correct abbreviation for PCI Express is PCI-E.

Thats odd.

I've seen PCX thrown around with various products, not just nVidia.

PCI-E or PCX, either is fine with me, though there is the obvious confusion with PCI-X.

That would be great when you get the PSU and have the time exdeath. I've been a SCSI guy since I built my first computer 10 years ago but with all the IDE and now SATA performance improvements over the years (and of course the PRICE!) I think I have to acquiesce and convert to SATA for my next drive purchases.

I think I will always have a place in my heart for the SCSI stuff though. It has served me welll for many years.

Maybe more vendors are using PCX, but it can (obviously 😛 ) cause miscommunication.

Just ordered a 6800 Ultra 256M DDR3 PCI-Express from kaospcs.com
$687.50 (ouch!)

http://www.kaospcs.com/product...0UT&dept_id=34-001

I found it on the fifth page of my Froogle search...
No indication whether or not it was in or out of stock at the time I placed my order. I'll post my experience with them for others who've been looking for high end PCI- Express cards.

I plan to use this solo in the A8N-SLI Deluxe for awhile until the prices come down, then do the SLI thing with a second, hopefully less expensive, 6800 Ultra.
