Ok i primarily purchased my 6800 ultra over the x800 xt pe because it has ps3.0, i beleive that this ps3.0 will soon be the future in gaming development and with this feature will provide faster performance and much more visually stunning graphics effects. who else agrees that the x800 xt pe takes the crown for performance (excluding doom3) especially at high res and aa/af right now, but soon the 6800 ultra will takeover once games with ps3.0 take over?

your thoughts are much appreciated and lets keep this thread flame free. thnx!

i think both are good cards, and when the new features are implemented, they'll be new, more powerful video cards. I personally don't believe that itis possible to future proof video cards, because the technology is always changing, but i believe that the 6800 will have a longer life for gaming, since it is more of a revolution then the x800, which was an evolution of the last generation. I think both will be plausable for gaming for a while, but by the time new features are really rolled into games, they'll be a new generation of 32 pipeline, or dual 16 pipeline chips with all kinds of new features that will cost 500 bucks each.
Personally i believe the sweetpoint in the market this time is the 300-399 range, where it's not the most expensive,it's powerful, can be overclocked, and has the same features.
I think the 6800gt as far as for gaming is one of the best choices, as it's not outragously expensive, can overclock with a good margin, has a full feature set like the ultra, is good on power consumption and space, and makes a solid gaming choice.
As far as a king, i don't know if there is one since the 6800 family is all so close in performance and offerings, and since overclocking bridges the gap.

Yeah, I would say the 6800 series is more future proof. I am selling my gainward gs 6800 gt though. I like playing with vsync on and this card is nothing like my radeon 9800 in terms of smoothness with vsync. Without vsync its awesome, but I cant stand tearing. If anyone wants to take it off my hands pm me.

btw ps3.0 is nothing revolutionary. There are no effects that ps3.0 adds that ps2.0 cant already do. The only difference is the number of instructions and even that is supported by ATI cards with ps2.0b so don't worry about it too much and get the one that is cheaper.
