We need your system details.
CPU
Mobo
PSU make and wattage rating
Monitor type (CRT or LCD)

Hit your F8 key when you first boot up right after the P4 splash screen and try booting into safe mode if you can. It could be you didn't uninstall older drivers and is causing windows to halt because it cant load the driver. Just a guess.

here are my specs

Sony Vaio pcv-rz46g
Asus P4SD-VX Mobo
Window XP Media Center Edition
P4 3.2GHz w/ HT
1GB PC2700 333Mhz DDR Ram
200GB 7200rpm Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive........Actually 2 hard drives, one 160 gb the other is 40 gb
DVD Rw Drive
CD-Rw Drive
300 Watt power supply
nVidia GeForce FX5600
Neovo 17" LCD Monitor

I tried booting in safe mode...........no luck..........i used driver cleaner to uninstall the nvidia drivers and but when i swap back to my 5600 everything runs fine. It seems as though even though i uninstall the drivers they still remain for some reason.

I have the stock nsb 300 watt power supply as well as a thermaltake 420w psu i bought along with the card.........no luck from either psu's. I have no idea wats wrong

Inspect the card very carefully for damage. Check the gold connectors to see if any are torn or missing. Any capacitors that are loose or falling off. Do you have another computer or a friends computer to try it out in?

Did you connect the molex connector? It requires additional power. Believe it or not, alot of people forget to do this. Also, the BIOS (min anyway) does have an option to set the video adapter as AGP or PCI, and PCI is the default, so that could also be a problem.

In my Phoenix AwardBIOS it is BIOS> Integrated Peripherals> Primary Graphics Adapter> AGP or PCI

You can usually access the BIOS by pressing Delete (i punch it several times in a row) as soon as you see the splash screen for the mobo company or computer company, like sony or dell. You need to do this BEFORE windows starts to load of course. You will also need to save your settings. But, if your last card was AGP and it doesn't work, that could be the problem. If you have an older computer with a motherboard that doesn't support AGP 8x, the AGP voltage could be wrong and then you have to get a new mobo.

Did you do a thorough search through your settings?

There is no utility around to change these settings.

Remark900,

It might be DOA because my card started doing the same thing now. I posted this on someone else's thread just today:

"Has anyone dealt with customer service for BFG 6800 GT OC? I got mine about 4 months ago and just recently the card is acting up BIG time. I keep getting blank/black screens or snow effect...which the only way to shut down is holding the power botton. I don't think its my power supply but am going to order one this week. I will take out the video card tonight and put in my old GF4 4400GTS and see if the problem goes away.

If anyone has dealt with BFG customer service for returns/replacements, please share your experience. Thanks."

As you can see. I am having the same problem as you. sometimes I just get blank screens and system won't boot and other times it'll boot to windows right up to log-in screen then turns black/blank.

I know this is not helping your problem but just letting you know, you're not alone.
