i did try coolbits, it gave me the same basic message, even oc'ing by 1 mhz on either memory or core gives teh same message, so i know it must be a config problem

From another thread:

open rivatuner
click on the power user tab
read, then ok the warning that comes up asking if you are experienced enuff to use it
then look at the list displayed, find the one that says RivaTuner 2.0RC 15.2\NVidia\Overclocking
make sure its the one with Nvidia, there is another listing without Nvidia, just saying Overclocking
then click on the plus sign to open a menu under this.....
you should see probably 2nd item down is DisableInternalClockTest
that is written on a light grey background, look to the left, u can just make out a greyed out tickmark,
click that so its a solid colour
then look to the right of the DisableInteralClockTest writing and see the dark grey panel, type a 1 in there
then apply and ok whatever it says..
then you should reboot your computer
when thats done open rivatuner again
where it says on the Main tab Driver Settings, you should have Forceware Detected in the box.
next to where it says customize is a little box with an arrow, click that to open some options
chooser system settings
first tab should say Overclocking
check the Enable driver-level Hardware overclocking box, this then allows you to change things.

Look for the box thats says "enable settings on startup" or something like that. Should be in the same window where you set the clock speeds.

Have you soft modded to unlock the pipes ?..if so, thats the problem !..Disable the pipes the try the overclocking again, I'll bet it works:)

I had the same problem with my BFG 6800 NU...

If you have already done the DisableInternalClockTest trick, then do as TLfromAI says. Under the Main tab of rivatuner, go to driver settings and click on the triangle to bring up the system tweaks like you would to overclock. Right beneath the sliders there should be a startup options section that has a radio button to allow you to boot with your currently selected settings. Works for me and my 16p/6vp 6800nu at 430/920.

You unlocked the sleeping pipes and vertex shader correct? Lock them back up again, reboot, and you'll be able to overclock.

yes, i did unlock them. so overclock it first, then unlock the pipes? because i definately want them to stay unlocked since they work!

Do what Ice Mole said above. Then you should be fine.

If you want to over clock via RivaTuner with the clock test enabled, disable the pipes then try to overclock...

BTW, the reason its not working is because you might think that when unlocked the other pipes you have NO artifacts, but you DO have artifacts (bad pipes), so it keep on failing the clock test:)
