I paid $409 from GameVE, & U're right... it's NOT a 6800GT, it IS a 6800 Ultra... yet it identifies itself in Windows as a 6800GT @ GT Speeds.

Long story short... supposedly eVGA had run out of GT Fans & had come up w/ this "Special" arrangement w/ GameVE (no1 else) 2 supply 6800GT's w/ Ultra Fans on them. Since these fans won't fit in the GT box, they're selling it as a "Special OEM Edition" w/ Retail 1 Year Warranty, Far Cry, Accessories, etc.

The guy @ GameVE was nice when I called him (B4 they shipped), I told him that I had some serious concerns that it was an Ultra that didn't make the cut, thus put @ GT speeds... he said that he overclocked it himself & it worked fine. I told him I'd give it a good run-through & test it thoroughly & would call him if I had any problems.

When it came in, I immediately called him and played dumb... saying that there's 2x power connectors, but that the GT was only supposed 2 have 1x & asked if I should plug them both in... he said he didn't know, but that if there were 2x, then sure. I asked he if was sure, he said no not really. I neglected 2 mention the Dual DVI & Dual Slot B'ing that I didn't want 2 B 2 obvious that I knew this wasn't a GT, rather an Ultra. Afterwards, I also noticed that eVGA's sticker wasn't on the fan as usual, rather nVidia's.

I persisted asking him if this was really a GT, playing stupid... he said, well... there's a sticker they put on the back, it's whatever that sticker says. (It says GT). I'm like O-K-A-Y, if U say so... I'll try it out.

The ONLY thing I've noticed so far is that the Fan on the GPU tends 2 rattle a tiny bit, just enough 2 annoy me. So long as that fan holds out 4 some of these aftermarket coolers, that's something I can live w/. Again, I'm a lil bit anxious 2 C if it's capable of anymore w/ some Artic Silver & Heat Pipes... those plastic/foam heat crap nVidia uses R worthless.

1x of the ways GT overclockers R limited is the amount of power they can supply 2 the card. B'ing that mine IS an Ultra w/ TWO power connectors, I don't C Y I can't go EVEN HIGHER than them.... provided that it's not an Ultra that didn't make the cut.

P.S.
4 those wondering: No, I DO NOT believe that they ran out of GT fans... & I'd like 2 think the piece of paper that says "Connecting GeForce 6800 Ultra to the Power Supply" is a pretty obvious clue. Oh, btw... it came w/ TWO (2) DVI 2 VGA Converters. I found that unXpected as manufacturers usually only give the 1x adapter 4 the 1x DVI port. Now I use a CRT monitor 4 my gaming, but I'm starting 2 entertain the idea of 2x <16ms LCD's, the Dual DVI would B a waste otherwise.

On a side note, I personally think that 53'C under Full Load is a whole lot lower from all the other peeps I've been hearing w/ Air cooling. Hopefully a good sign of further overclocking potential?

Shniz, since when does number of power connectors have anything todo with overclockability ? does your peeps work with only one power connector plugged in ?

quite possibly, it would help if you specify which brand of card you have

PNY 6800 GT.
But I figured out my problem. Once I updated far cry with the latest patch it fixed my temp. problem.
Now it's about 78-81 when playing. I had some weird graphics when playing far cry w/o the patch.

Slacker, I was afraid some1 was gonna ask 4 pics, lol. Unfortunately my digicam is busted, gonna try & borrow some1's & get some pics up 2morrow night...

User1234, # of Power Connectors has nothing 2 do w/ the ability of a card or chip 2 overclock, rather the increased power consumption of an Ultra indicated by the 2x connectors may allow the chip 2 reach its full potential in overclocking by increased or more stable current. That is assuming it's not already reached B'ing a defected Ultra.

There R only 3x variables U really have control over in overclocking: timing, cooling, and power. Timing is more up 2 what the chip is capable of, cooling is already pretty good @ 53'C, and increased or more stable power may allow better stability @ higher speeds, aka no artifacts or BSOD's.

LeGaCi, U're right... version 1.0 of Far Cry doesn't have support 4 the 6800's, what U saw was normal. U need 1.1 or 1.2 (if U can find it).

At stock I got 58K in aquamark and 11K in 3dmark2003. Overclocked to ultra speed (400/1100) and got 60K and 12K respecitively. Everything is 100% stable at this speed, no flicker or artifacts, and it seems to stay 55C at rest (didn't test full load temps yet). My system is A64 3200+ @2.1GHz, MSI K8T Neo, 1GB Crucial PC3200 @ 2x210=420 MHz

Anywho, ask & U shall receive... eventually, or @least until I can borrow some1's digi :D

Rather than sitting here all day long typing in URL's, I thought I'd just send U over 2 here...
2 B OR NOT 2 B, THAT IS THE Q!

If U happen 2 B a Lazy American :: cough :: like me :: cough :: here's the 2x Money Shots :)
Ah, so it IS an Ultra!
Ah, so it IS a GT!

Notice there R 2 pages of pics, that sticker is on the 2nd ;)

P.S.
U know, I'm glad they put that piece of paper in the box & sticker on the card... I might think it's my old Voodoo otherwise

My pny 6800gt gets to 65 C after running 3dmark03, 55 C at idle.
The other day I was playing CoD and I could feel it's getting hot in there, that game (maxed out @1280x1024) really taxes a gpu
