6800 GT temps?

So after installing my 6800 GT I noticed the temp for the core went up to 87 under super heavy load. When I overclock to 400/1050. I get a core temp of 91. I haven't noticed any white spots or any video errors. Is this temp normal? I think the ambient temp was getting as high as 61. I removed my case side and that dropped the temp down a couple degrees. To about 89 for the core. Should I be worried? What's normal? Screaming card by the way. Absolutely amazing. My 3dmark2003 was 11532. My Pcmark is only 3976. I think my CPU might be holding me back a bit. Its a athlon64 2800+ at 2.06 Ghz. Thanks in advance.

your cpu is definately holding you back...

and those temps do seem very high. from word of mouth i'd only heard GTs maxing out in the 80s...

unfortunately not so many people have them yet..

Yes the CPU is holding you back; I got 12600 3DMark03 with a 2.53GHz XP-M.

Yes that's a bit hot. My GT (420/1.19-418/1.18) runs at 83C super heavy load, generally mid-70s otherwise. That's with about a 50C ambient temp/30C system temp. I would suggest looking into your case cooling since that's probably what's doing it, especially if removing the cover reduces the temp (a well cooled case would generally be better with it on).

dude... my BFG 6800 Ultra OC gets up to 86C under full load. I also have her clocked up to 450MHZ/1.2GHZ, EE speeds w00t w00t.

Could you guys please post your brand names when you say "my GT" so that we know? Thanks. I'm wondering if the BFG has a better heatsync than eVGA and whatnot.

Wow, those temps are rediculous. I don't want a 90C heater in my comp. I hope we see some aftermarket coolers for these that exhaust that heat out of the case vga-silencer style.

I have a bfg 6800 gt, i run it at 400/1100 and it maxes at about 70C or so. Im having issues with my settings, as i only get 11700 in 3dmark03 with a 3.06, 1024mb rdram setup. Im using 61.36 whql. Any suggestions for the settings in the properties?

your CPU is holding you back, and that's a good score btw

BFG 6800 GT OC at default 370/1000 - 66 idle, 85 load. There has to be something screwy with the temp sensor because it feels cooler than the X800 Pro it replaced. The Pro temps maxed out in the mid 70's after a couple of hours of gaming and it was pretty warm to the touch, whereas the GT maxes out at 85 after one round of 3DMark03 and doesn't feel nearly as warm. Oh well - as long as it keeps chugging. ;)

Edit: Ok, I must not have touched the card after it was running for a while during the first temp test because last night I ran a rendering program for 15 minutes with the GT at stock speeds and temps hit 90C. It was definitely very warm to the touch, even though I have pretty good case cooling. I can't wait for Arctic Cooling to come out with something for the 6800's because that's just too warm for me to be comfortable with and I'd like to OC to Ultra levels eventually.

I think your 533 FSB might have something to do with your score.

I was wondering how most people determine the temps for their cards. Cause if I play farcry for awhile and then switch back and check the temps it looks like my card runs in the mid 70s. But, if i run a 3d rendering program in a window and watch the temps as the program runs then I see it get to high 80's. The instant the program stops though, it drops like 5 degrees. and another 5 over the next couple seconds.

Whats a good setup for my fans. I have one intake fan in the front and one intake fan in the back and I have an exhaust fan that fits in a card slot right below the 6800 gt card. Plus power supply fan. I know my card runs pretty hot but I haven't had any stability issues and I have it at 400/1050.

By the way, people keep mentioning that they have the farcry1.2 patch. how are they getting it allready?

Usa a temp prog that keeps a running tab--like Windows' Task Manager--so that when you exit a game you can just check to see what your temp was a minute ago.

I just got mine today and looking at the card, there's thermal tape/pads between the ram and the heatsink. Has anyone torn this thing apart to see whats on the gpu? I'm thinking if they have a pad on the gpu some AS would do help out a bit...

I wouldn't worry about what folks with AMD processors are getting. You need to compare apples to apples and see what other P4 users are getting. Like comparing your 3.06/533 with say a 3.0/800.

That's about how I got my temps also. It's a BFG by the way.

I emailed BFG just to see if they felt 91C is a safe temp, as I have seen my GT get there a few times at default clocks and had Far Cry blue screen on me the other night after about half an hour of playing. This is the reply I received...

Actually, this card has no problem with 91 C core temps. The card runs fairly hot. If you continue having gaming problems, do feel free to let us know, but the temps you are seeing are not cause for concern.

According to that, these puppies must be pretty tolerant of heat and we shouldn't worry about it. You gotta admit BFG has the best customer support in the biz. :) I've emailed other companies about things like this and never even received a reply.

i don't like those temps
these things must be putting off more heat than an athlon XP if i had to guess

if i get one of these i'm probably gonna have to water cool it because it gets kinda hot where i live (60-100 mostly, 70's average)

Well I'm in Texas so imagine how I feel. ;) We keep the thermostat set to 76 when we're home so the house is plenty cool. I have about 60cfm of air pumping through my mini-tower SX630II and the card still hits 91C after half an hour of intense 3D. I posted earlier with temps of about 65C idle and 85C load, but it's actually gone down/up to 62C idle and 91C load (with default clocks). I still need to figure out what caused the blue screen in Far Cry, but it may have been DX 9.0c or the 61.71's.
