ATI paper launched the 16 pipe X800XL for $299 which is a better deal then the 6800GT at $399, but you won't find any X800XL's for sale anywhere for a while (think months). It's basically a slower clocked X800XT, but as I said it's a paper launch product.

Another thing to consider is that ATI only announced a PCI-E version of the X800XL. They do have a Rialto bridging chip in development but there are no product announcements yet.

Not to mention ATI's "We will ship the product within 30 days of being announced." policy (which is garbage)

PM'd CC for a 6800. 🙂 Thanks for the heads up. I blew up my 9800Pro yesterday! LOL. The 4Pin Molex is black! It works though, but it still goes back to ATi so they can send me a new one. I couldn't wait for them to take a month for it to get back to me 😉

how did you do this, I am going to CC in a couple days...

Well I just decided to build a brand new A64 system. Upgrading from whats in my sig, what do you guys think I should do? Wait and get a NF4 board and PCI-e, with 6600GT maybe or get a NF3 w/ a 6800NU from Micro? What would you do?

Yes, how did you pricematch? Did you tell the sales clerk to visit the website?

For one, I think there has to be a MicroCenter in your area.

Well I'm in the california bay area, there is one about an hour away. I don't want to drive an hour though. CC and Best Buy, CompUSA, are all closer.

Well I am in a similar boat in that CC, BB, CUSA are 15 min away while Microcenter is 4 hours. Did you print the info off the net? How did you get them to pm the card?

x800 XT arrived less than 24hrs after placing my order. There is a hugely noticable increase in performance in EQ2 (graphics whore) thanks to the 4 additional pipes.

Couldn't be happier with the purchase, or Microcenter.

I went from a 6800, to a 6800 GT and also had massive gains in WoW, HL2 and others. the faster memory, 4 add'l pipes, and more total RAM make a huge difference. Here are my 3dmark 03 scores from my recent 3 cards:

(p4 2.8 ghz, 1 GB pc3200 corsair, Abit IS7-e)

ATI 9800: 5145
6800: 8542
6800 GT: 10,550

this is XP Pro, SP2, with default 3dmark settings (1024, no AA)

WoW looks friggin' awesome now, at 1600, 16x AF enabled! and running a 50+ fps, maybe more.

P.S. got this GT in this MC deal, and got it overnight in the shrinkwrapped, retail box. awesome price, and I was able to return my 6800 to CC for full credit, making this an even swap to trade up to a GT. Can't beat that! great service from MC, too. I'll buy from them again.

Too bad Newegg isn't so good at taking returns. The 15% restocking fee on my 6800NU kills this for me.

Glad you got your card Jeff.

I put my order in late Monday night for the 6800 GT. I'm still waiting to hear back from MC. I called them yesterday and was told they would call me back, but haven't heard from them. It wouldn't be quite as frustrating if they hadn't sent out an email that said it could take 15 days or more to get them, and their site still says it will ship in 5 to 7 days.

The card is running nicely @ 400/ 1100 with no artifacts (Rivatuner). Plenty of power for my dell ws. Battle for middle earth runs great. Benchies are 17xxx for the 3d01 and 11k for 3d03. I need to do a fresh install and some tweaking.

It's a little louder than my 9700np with ice... cooler.

1 left at Cambridge location. I called ahead of time this morning and got them to put 1 aside for me until i could pick it up this night. ONE MORE LEFT!!!!

Last year when Microcenter has a sale on the ATI 9800Pro I missed out...they were OOS....so I went right down to BestCry, PMed plus I had a gift card. They didn't even CALL Microcenter! If they did they would have found zero stock..LOL! I guess they wanted a sale or something 🙂
