I gave in and bought the X800 XT for $435.56 (with tax and 2 day shiping)

It has the VIVO that I may actually use. With the 16 pipes and a little overclocking hopefully it will be as fast as The XT PE.

Anyone knows whether the EVGA fans are temperature-controlled?

If the card is doing 2D, would the fans idle? Probably different by model...

well i just got off the phone with micro center and i must say that was one of the easiest and nicest phone calls ive had with a retail establishment. Dont think anyone has answered this but i was told that it doesn't come with far cry...but i did complain and say(whether or not it was true) that the model # is supposed to ship with far cry. The lady spoke with her product manager and said that wont be a problem and asked if they cant track down a copy of far cry if doom3 would be ok...ummm ya! So no micro center in Nv= no sales tax and free game. ymmv but call them and raise a fuss. Thank you op!

agreed maverick, nice bunch of people. i called them on the game but didn't get too far, more of a wait and see, but i didn't press too hard, was just glad to hear that it is already being routed so it should be here tomorrow.

You'll have to wait a bit. CC seems to have 10% off video cards online this week. Typically they match their online prices in store, so PMing wouldn't be as sweet.
 
Can anyone fine X800 pros at Best Buy? Says in stock online, but every location in Houston shows it as not available 🙁
 
The GT is considerably more powerful. Faster ram, twice the amount of ram, faster core clock and memory speeds, and 16 pixel pipes vs 12 on the 6800. Both this site and Tom's Hardware have charts o' plenty with benchmarks you can see to judge the difference.

I also got an email stating mine wouldn't be shipped till the 6th 🙁 but then I called and the lady said that's just worse case, it could go out today or tomorrow, but she had no way of telling for sure.

Just PM'ed at the Circuit City in Edina, MN. They didn't have any in stock but are direct shipping it to me, it was $315.99 (110% PM) plus $20.54 tax...ouch. Total was $336.53
 
Thanks OP... just what I was waiting for!!!!

I went for the 6800nu to save a $100 bucks towards a 19" LCD... the 'big' difference is really at high resolutions anyways, which I will never use, plus I can unlock the pipes and overclock if need be. Awesome deal 🙂

A lot of times when it says available for store pickup, the item can be "customer fulfilled" and delivered to the store for pickup or your house after you place the order in-store.

Doubtful you will unlock those pipes. Most likely you will received some artifacting after unlocking those pipes. OC is also not as effective when compared to the OC capabilities of the GT.
