6800 fan RPM control

Is there a utility that would control the 6800 fan RPM based on the GPU temperature?

If this was possible, the fan noise would be lower when surfing the web or anything else that was not graphics intensive.

A number of brands have that feature built into their cards, Gainward, for example.

v3.20 and earlier will work on most cards ~ newer versions wont.

leadtek dont have any control over the fan....its not thats it loud....its still audiable but its quieter than reference cooling....except u can hear it sucking air thru that little mesh grille its got, so its louder than it should be

Umm...have you even tried it? Expertool works fine for controlling the fan speed on my eVGA 6800LE>hacked Utra. Fan speed=noise. By controlling fan speed with Expertool, you can control fan noise. I've got mine set %55 for 2D / %60 for 3D :beer:

Here's a link to version 3.20. I tried it out last night on my BFG 6800OC and it works great. 🙂 I set the speed to 50% in 2d, 100% in 3d (I don't care much about noise while I'm playing a game).

Every card automatically does this as that is the reference design.

nVidia's reference drivers control the fan as fan throttling is part of the reference design.

not for everyone.
my card is 100% all the time no matter what.
Gainward GS GTs are also 100% all the time.

but not with Expertool 🙂

I installed ExperTool, but it just sits in my tray. I can't left or right click it.

Edit: after rebooting, it works. It's doing strange things to spoolsv.exe, though. How do you slow down the fan?

You need to go to the "Performance" tab and click on the related button for the fan speed.
Then, you can choose manual (or something like that) and set it to 50% for minimum RPM.
