i checked the blue screen message that comes up sometimes but not everytime that my computer freezes and reboots. it claims that nv4_disp or nv4_disp.dll is causing an infinite loop. i check this in google and found a bunch of forum threads with this same problem, but all the threads that i checked were about pretty oudtated cards/drivers. if you guys can find out anything about this infinite loop problem or have suggestions other than the mobo drivers/bios please let me know. i will try to return the card to best buy to swap it out and see if the hardware itself is f****d. the sadness is my heart is overwhelming.

and btw robot, i thought "liberal" and "conservative" referred to interpretation of the consitution. and although i mostly agree about your analysis of major parties, the regean, bush sr, and bush jr admininstrations have had some very liberal economic policies as well. HUGE government spending is not inline with conservative economic policy, or at least i think i learned that in class, but i got a C so you know.....

another thought... the psu might not be putting out enough juice. i know there are acceptable ranges for it, but i dont know how to go about testing. i see more and more references to 4 and 1 drivers causing this. i would try booting into windows, but before installing VIA 4in1 or nvidia drivers, upgrade to sp2 and install MS agp driver. then install the rest of the 4in1 (but not the agp). someone recommended this on the via forums.

also, this might be informative - http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=366856

hopefully just getting a new card will fix the problem

re: liberal and conservative. it probably does have its roots back in the day with jefferson and hamiltons feud. jefferson wanted strict interpretation of the const (consequently reducing the govt. power and influence), while hamilton wanted a national bank and other govt. institutions. he wanted a loose interpretation of the document and to take advantage of the "necessary and proper" elastic clause. i suppose jefferson would be the first conservative and likewise hamilton a liberal (basing off my definitions).

the point i was trying to illustrate is that the partys are so fuxoredly inconsistent. just like you said, conservative perception is smaller govt., less taxes etc., but spending these days is crazy to the jenkins. and while they consider themselves "conservative" this really only applies (and not even accurately) to their economic policy while their moral majority wishes to be quite liberal in enacting social controls (pro-life, anti-rainbow agendas...) this belongs in p&n lol. a wise word to the noob, stay out of p&n it will just piss you off and reaffirm your belief that most people are idiots....

good luck with the vid card problem, you may just want to pick up an ati card... the only common thing i see with the nv4 infinite loop errors are VIA chipsets + NVIDIA cards - tho i know there are plenty of people that have it working no problem.... i believe there is a hot deal on a 128mb 256bit 9800pro at outpost right now. might want to check out hot deals...
