I wonder if the Ultra/XT versions come with 2 power connectors andt the regular versions only with one. That could maybe prevent softmodding.

Wow. Render has me bummed now. ;) I appreciate the links though - good stuff to know about in case I have any problems. Hopefully the Tagan unit I receive will not be one of the defective ones. Those posts are from a couple of months ago, so maybe they have their QC under control now. :)

This would mean that Nvidia's efficiency per clock cycle must be at least 50% better than ATIs just to equal the performance of the GPU alone.

One has to look at the 5900s who had half the pixel pipelines and a 20% increase in clock to see if Nvidia is really more efficient. 5900s for the most part could keep up with the 9800 Pros. I would imagine the 6800s will be the same.

Even though ATI is going to use an older architectue I doubt Nvidia does 50% more work per clock cycle in comparison to a 9800Pro/XT. Look at the benchmarks,

Remember Nvidia has half the pixel pipes on the 5900s vs the 9800 and a 20% clock increase. It should be a wash at best.

yeah you are right it's going to be a close battle. But you also have to remember the 5950 has 950mhz memory or about 30% faster and more bandwidth than XT's 730mhz. So NV had a faster gpu and faster memory to compensate. I do see your points about Nvidia being more efficient per clock cycle to be able to keep up with the 9800s or otherwise it would need 2x the gpu speed of a 9800 series but it doesn't. Also Nvidia's 4x2 architecture did help out a little in multitextured games. If it had been a 4x1 I would have found it slower in some games and not so close to ATI. I just think x800xt will be slightly faster maybe by 5-10% but we'll just have to wait and see 2 months.

I really doubt the X800XT will draw as much as the 6800U, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

My PSU has 34A on the 12v.. Im ready anytime the cards are.

No, it's not all that great.

Ok so they aren't perfect... But it sounds like those are pretty isolated cases.
Agreed. I'm certain I can find far more gripes about the Antecs simply due to the number in use. I'm certain Tagan is an excellent PSU if the percentages are examined.

If ATI can release a similar performance card with 1 molex connector, I think they have a winner. 2 molexes may be a problem for many users, at least it will be for me.
