6800 and doom 3 problems??

Hey guys,
I think this is the right forum for this. I'm thinking it has something to do with my videocard, but not sure.
So here's my problem, I got in on the early release of doom 3. I've been playing since saturday, first I set it on High quality on 1280x1024 and it ran smooth. Then after a level or 2, it starts to do the slideshow when an imp shoots a fireball at me or any other type of exlosion. Runs perfectly fine though when there isn't much lighting going on. So I reduced the resolution down to medium quality at 1280x1024 and it started to run smooth again. But once again when I get to a new level, it starts to do a slideshow when an imp shoots a fireball at me again. I even once reduce the quality down to 1024x768 and it did the same thing.
This is really starting to annoy me. Please help!

My Rig:
Abit kv8 w/ athlon 64 2800+
1gb Crucial ram
PNY gt800 GT OC

I also turned off AA and AF still doesn't help.
Anyone else who's played this gettin the same problem?
or is it my videocard?

If you're asking about testing your system RAM here's a great memory tester... Memtest86

That is interesting. Maybe something to do with reading something off of your hard drive? maybe not even doom 3? Just one of many guesses i could make.
Some others are: update your drivers (chipset, video card, etc), try different games and see if something like this happens, scan for viruses/spyware, check cpu and ram usage of other applications.

even after I restarted my comp. and load up d3, it still does a slideshow.
But to answer your question, no level opens up with an imp shooting fireball at you.
My comp. seems to do a slideshow whenever there's lighting or special effects going on.
if the imp or any other enemy is there, it's fine, it's just when they shoot the fireball, rocket w/ explosion, or an exploding nade that it slows down.

Far cry & american operation run fine. (on ultra high quality)
I've updated all my drivers.
cpu isn't doing anything else, same with ram.
no viruses or spyware. I checked it all before installing the game.

Problem fix. Thanks for all your help guys. Apparently it had something to do with my duel monitors.
Once I set it to single, it works great!

I time demo it on ULTRA QUALITY at 16x12 and got 60.2 fps.
No Joke.

I used "timedemo demo1 1" command.

ROFL! It looks like the bigger the creatures get, the slower the FPS gets. ;)

System processor/RAM/Video card?

Just curious...

Hey, if your laptop can play D3, that's saying a lot! :)

I love my Toshiba...though, it has a pewpy graphics card. I have a Toshiba P15-S409. (2.8/HT, 512MB PC2700, FX5100 32MB)

I can play it on my Toshiba A45-S121 (p4-2.2, 768mb-ram, +/-60mb-vram intel extreme int. graphics) but only at 640X480 in a window on low q :(
Woot, tweaked it a bit and now I am getting average 22 fps minimum 14fps at 800x600 full screen! Thats "playable" for me, on a laptop anyway :D
