Any Reason Why the EVGA ?

Edited to add below:

I now see at least 1 Advantage of the EVGA, The EVGA has a Better Cooling System, & if you read the XFX s' Reviews there's a lot of complaints about Heat

I think I'll buy that EVGA

Thanks for the Link inthell

I noticed these "6800"s don't use the GDDR3 Memory, like the "6600GT",

Is that a Problem ???

Thanks again

Not a problem. The 6800's are faster than the 6600gt's in every way, and all 6800's have the same type of memory (although I don't know what typs that is).

6800's have a 256bit memory bus which makes their memory 2x as fast as the 6600gt's 128bit bus (if clocked at the same memory speed). The stock 6600gt memory speed is 1000mhz and 6800=700mhz. And nearly everyone with a 6800 can clock their memory up to 800-900mhz with no problems.

And yes, it's much better than an ati radeon 9800, and is about equivalent to an x800pro depending on what game benchmarks you look at.

Would this run cooler / consume less power than an ATI Radeon 9800? My Radeon 9800 runs very hot IMO

I was reading a Thread here at AT last night, can't remember which one, that claimed the 6800 Requires a Big PSU, But the X800 Pro Actually Requires "Less" Power than the 9800 Pro.

Because of the Power, I'd get the X800Pro if you could find it cheap enough, but I've had No luck doing that

So because of this Price inthell has listed, I think I'll go with the EVGA 6800

Regards

The reviews on newegg talk about unlocking pipelines.. is this beneficial? and if so is it hard to do?

its very very beneficial, only problem is all the cards wont unlock all the pipes and vertex shaders.... its like a gamble..... nonetheless the 6800 is still a better card then the 6600 since it has 4 more pipes then the 6600.

Just FYI, I bought the XFX 6800 in the 'newer' retail packaging and I'm running it on an old Antec 300W PSU - because that's all I have. :)

It's been solid. It's hard to argue w/ the price and the 'double' warranty.

About cooling - these things run hot. The 6800 series video cards are the hottest video cards ever as far as I know (the 7800's actually run cooler and use less power).

I've been looking to sell my 6800 and replace it with an x800pro just because of heat issues :)

But, they're the fastest video cards you can get for around $150.

The 6800 doesn't run that hot. My Previous FX5900 ran a bit hotter. Unlocking the pipes is pretty trivial in rivatuner and actualy works for a good percent of the cards.

I bought that EVGA 6800 yesterday at about 3:30 pm. When I got home from work at about 9:00 pm(yesterday), I had an Email of "Shipping" confirmation waitng for me. Talk about Fast, that was 5 hours or less.

I got tired of waiting around for the X800Pro to drop in price. Plus all the Refurbs at ATI are gone. The cheapest I found an X800Pro for was well up into the upper-200s'.

So hopefully this 6800 doesn't run Too-Hot, or Run up my Electric Bill.

Anybody have some Figures on 6800 Heat Temps & Power Usage ???

Thanks again inthell for the Post

UNLOCKING

I've got that EVGA 6800 from Newegg in my Hands, I don't think it's an "LE", how can you tell ?

Also, I've heard the EVGA is better than the PNY, but everybody has an opinion.

I think that's at idle. Under load the X800 will consume more power than the 9800.
