68 pin ide cable?!?!

i am probably going to need to buy one of these... but wtf?! there are 68 pin ide cables? is this part a proprietary compaq part? anyone ever heard of this? or better yet, anyone know where i can get one?! :p

Pretty wierd. AFAIK 68-wire were some SCSI cables, IDE is either 40 or 80-wire...

this cd-rom is actually for a desktop pc. and it's not scsi from all the pdf files i have been looking thru. proprietary hardware is sux!

The mini IDE/ATAPI connector has pins for audio, power, and master/slave

The big boys use laptop drives in 1U servers and such so a converter cable does exist (I have never been able to find one)

The drive you linked is also in a compaq tray so you will need to take it off to get at the real IDE/ATAPI connector

Most of the compaq notebook drives I have seen use a 44 pin connector.

I don't know if there is one of those beneath the surface of that baby or not, but if you need an adapter, you can get one here
