Do I find what he said in poor taste? Sure. But it's a little ridiculous that people are being vacationed/banned for expressing opinions that happen to include offensive language, but are fully within the realm of legal speech. Let fellow forum posters tear him a new asshole if they're so offended, but banning someone because they express an offensive or minority viewpoint is not good business. Then again, this is the forum that bans people for calling someone a "wise and beautiful woman," so I guess anything is fair game.

I agree with this, unless Mike has a history of using racial slurs, then a vacation is necessary. It's nice to try to keep the forum clean, but people should be able to speak their minds as long as they aren't mindlessly flaming other users.

Back in the day when racism was on the forefront and African Americans were getting persecuted for their race. These days it's not as vicious, and 90% of the time it's the African Americans themselves that say it. This reminds me of the South Park episode where they use a 'hateful and offensive' word, i love you, and show what it usually means these days.

I don't understand why though. I'm like a lot of people in that I sort of flinch inwardly when I hear it. It strikes me as an immensely ugly word, but there's nothing about it that makes it any worse than other derogatory words/phrases that I have no problem using. I never say it for the reason stated above, but I don't think it should be removed from the language. Removing words or even just refraining from saying them doesn't eliminate the underlying feelings that the words are expressing.

No, I don't think we should refrain from using the N word, but instead should start assigning it to people who deserve the name regardless of color. A n****r is not a black person, but a person of any race who demonstrates a level of laziness, stupidity, and low morality that makes them despicable to upstanding citizens. Of course that's not how anyone does or is ever likely to think of it. Seems like a waste of a perfectly good insult to me. :\

I think the reason the bus driver doesn't step in is because this happens all the time on buses. Usually it never escalates physically, but people will talk/yell/argue with each other and it's just another thing. Happened all the time when I took the blue line train from Downtown L.A. to Long Beach.

I mean from the time it physically started till the end it was what like 15 seconds? Then it stopped. The driver isn't going to just stop in the middle of the street. He'd probably pull over and try to stop or call the police or something (it looks like he did). But it was much too fast for any sort of action.
