You brought up the cheating speculation in another thread. I still don't know what you are trying to prove. They look pretty equal in performance especially if you pick a wider variety of games.

It all boils down to if you want a copy of BL2 and Physx features vs save $50 and get the 7870 with Sleeping Dogs. They are both great cards, period.

Umm, no.
First: that was another thread.
Second: I never said anyone cheated. Merely that it should be looked into in detail. Everyone else screamed that I was calling AMD cheaters. They were most irate about it. hehe.
Thirdly, if you say they are equal, you're not looking. Simple as that. So, we are done. If you don't want to see it, that is perfectly within your right to do so. Don't know how other will reflect upon your decision to do so, however.

Oh, and yes. They are both great cards. Lastly IMHO Sleeping Dogs is teh sux.

Since OP will be gaming at 1440p I would be looking at a 7950. The 660Ti begins to show its limitations at higher resolutions. Not to mention you can pick up a 7950 for $279 AR which is $20 cheaper that the 660Ti he was looking at.

I'd have to say that at 1440p, the 7950 is the best investment, especially at $280.

If you only care about Battlefield 3, then the 660ti is definitely the way to go. Framerates for that game are way higher for Nvidia (really shows what optimization can do). As everyone is saying, the two be VERY similar, but I think the 7870 will fare just a little better. Especially if you're paying that much extra between them. Look at any games you plan on buying and check, but you'll love either one.

@Keys, i think your numbers reveal how close they actually out outside of a few game that favor NV or ones that favor AMD.

If you want to get into the details, out of the ones that favor NV (wins big), you have 1 demo, not even a retail game, and dx9 at that. LP2.. well.. nuf said. The only legitimate win in that list is Shogun 2, because that game is more recent and with DLCs being great sellers on steam i know its still popular, heck, i play it heaps myself. Suprisingly, AMD wins big in Civ 5, still a very popular dx11 game.

So it comes down to averages, because as i've said earlier, depending on the game being benched the results could skew one way or the other. Overall averages with lots of games (TPU, computerbase.de, etc) have it 7% faster stock at 1080p 4xMSAA and probably same or less OC vs OC. In that list, its average fps across the games is 60.4 fps vs 56.8.. or 6%.

Is THAT worth 50-70 USD difference (~25% of a 7870)? Well as ive said, yes if you want Physx. Otherwise no way.

I agree that the 7950 is better than the 660Ti, for people willing to OC and who have space for a 11"+ card. That's probably most people on this forum, but not everyone. So even at the same price, the 660Ti, which is actually faster than a 7950 stock vs. stock, is a reasonable choice in many cases.

When has the 660 Ti been faster than a 7950?

I recall seeing 660tis being about 5-8% slower than a stock 7950... in most bench marks? Considering you can get OC editions from AIBS I don't think the 660ti is faster than a 7950 AT ALL. Let alone, the only games it were faster were TWIMTBP titles.

Any info on what drivers are being used in that eye bleading chart?

I say this because at the 660 Ti's launch most of the sites used older AMD drivers to do the testing or didn't even run the tests and just used old data from previous tests.

When reviews are full of cherry picked TWIMTBP games.. like techspot or tweaktown.

I would also add into that old AMD drivers with stock cards vs factory over clocked after market cooled 660 Ti cards.

There are no benchmark paramaters. Sorry, if I'm the only one here that doesn know res and settings and where this list comes from. There's 13 games, so it's about as close to an overall tie as you can get at 7 to 6 with there being no visual difference likely on most of the games and the 7870 is still $50 less expensive.

This. If any plans are in the cards for a 1440P monitor, and especially if overclocking is considered, you don't want to touch a GTX660Ti just because it comes with 1 free game.

Even in BF3, 7950 can overclock to GTX680/7970 GE speeds, something 660Ti can only dream of at high resolution.

For 1080P, without overclocking, a $250 GTX660Ti sounds more reasonable.

How many times do people have to post recent benchmarks and put this to rest. Nvidia does perform great in BF3, but it doesn't dominate AMD like it used to. The performance gap has closed, and oc'd the 7950 and 7970 match or exceed their nvidia equivalents now.

OP if you have any plans for going to a 1440p monitor in the future the only card worth getting is HD 7950 OC. At that resolution a HD 7950 (1.15 Ghz) can even beat a GTX 670(1.25 Ghz) if you look at performance across a wide range of games. The Sapphire HD 7950 Boost edition is available for an amazing price of USD 280 after rebate.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814202006

GTX 660 Ti does not stand a chance against the HD 7950 when both cards are overclocked.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/08/23/galaxy_gtx_660_ti_gc_oc_vs_670_hd_7950/2

clock for clock HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970 and is the best value foryour money.

Lastly IMHO Sleeping Dogs is teh sux.

Compared to what? GTA IV or Saints Row the Third? If you want to talk about mediocre games, Dragon Age II, Lost Planet 2 and HAWX 2 come to mind way before Sleeping Dogs does ^_^

Sure, BL2 will be vastly more popular than Sleeping Dogs but after that 1 game is finished, what happens next, especially at 1440P? GTX660Ti @ 1440P is dead weight.

660Ti's high resolution performance is very poor for a card that costs $285+

Crysis2%202560.png

Look at those minimums fps

Batman%202560.png

7950's minimums = GTX660Ti's average in Max Payne 3, one of the best games for NV. Talk about falling apart like a deck of cards. Overclock the 7950 and 660Ti is going to look like last generation's hardware at 1440P.

So one of the best games of 2012 sucks. well maybe in your opinion but this game is a sleeper hit with critical acclaim and is topping the charts. I have been playing the game and its one of the best games in recent times after Batman Arkham city and Deus Ex.

It is the 'sux' to him because maybe it's an AMD Gaming Evolved Title??Just asking...that's why I said 'maybe'.Maybe we should do an investigation....just saying.

Maybe if it was a TWIMTBP title it would not be the 'sux'.

Seems like neither card is really going to cut it and 1440p. Only reason why I was even considering the 660ti was because of the free copy of bl2 that I was planning on buying anyway. Since the 660ti was already pushing my budget, I think I'm better off getting the 7870 for now and add a 2nd one further down the road when the extra power is needed.

Are those supposed to be numbers from the xbitlabs table? Because they don't seem to be the same as in the xbit review.

Poeple who have already played GTA IV/Saints row the third it offers nothing new for them.It is a good game but I didn't notice much innovation.Honestly these premier games feels cheap compared to a 20$ game i.e TL2.If you guys like arpg buy it and love it
