Just wondering what you guys thought the best 6600GT would be quality wise??? I need it AGP for a shuttle SN95G5 that i am building for a friend. Just need a recommendation. I was looking a t the Leadtek card but its backordered everywhere any other recommendations or place i should get that if it is a good one???.....there are also ones from ASUS and MSI that look good but i don't know who is quality?? Thanks

here's a list of ones at newegg....

http://www.newegg.com/app/sear...InDesc=AGP&Order=price

asus, there boards have the most expensive and fastest ram along with 10layer pcb that alows for stable operation and good overclocking. Correct me please, I think the speed of the ram on those boards is somthing like 1.6 or 1.8 ns.

I just bought the eVGA off newegg for $217 shipped. Not too bad, considering most decent manufacturers are over $225... Any of the higher quality brands (eVGA, leadtek, BFG, XFX-maybe) shoud be good buys. Just buy one based on whatever games come with it and the best price.

If you're willing to spend $250, just go with a BFG 6800OC at Outpost.com. Much better then the same-priced BFG 6600GT. I have the BFG 6600GT... great card, but if I knew about Outpost.com's selling the BFG 6800 for the same price, I would have gone with that instead!

The plain Vanilla 6800 non ultra or gt has 12pixel processors just like the 6600 has. It is basicly the same card.

So what do you guys think....unfortunatly i can't find any deals on the 6600 GT OC from BFG.....looking at 249 at ZZF......where i am getting most of my other parts......i also don't have time to wait for deals bc i need to build this PC in the next two weeks......its for my bro's b-day. Wondering if i should save the $35 and go with a MSI or leadtech 6600 GT and those both have decent software bundels.......ahhh decisions decisions.....

also any other recommendations for my planned build....it is

Shuttle SN95G5
A64 3000+ winchester core
some graphics card
2x512mb crucial pc3200 ram
120GB sata WD

Thansk for the advice

I got a Gigabyte 6600GT AGP8x and its a lovely card (high quality, etc though the bundle has no games 🙁 ). Anyways, I clocked this mofo to 594 core and 1203 memory and man this puppy can still run with no artifacts. I'd suggest getting the Gigabyte (got mine for 200 bucks) and try to avoid the BFG 6600GT AGP since its still 250 bucks. If you can, wait. But do understand that the BFG 6600GT AGP does not overclock so well. I got mine to near 600/1200 speeds.

That would make sense if what you said was true.

However, you are quite wrong.

The vanilla 6800 DOES have 12pipes, but the 6600GT has 8pipes.

The differance is even bigger when you consider you can take the vanilla 6800 from 12 to 16pipes by unlocking the extra pipes using RivaTuner.

You can't unlock didly with the 6600GT.

Hmmm... 16 pipes with the Vanilla 6800 or 8 pipes with the 6600GT?

Please don't confuse people if you're not sure of the facts!

Ruefy13, WHY IN THE WORLD would you spend the SAME amount of money for a 6600GT when you can get a card that is much faster for the same price?

Outpost.com can have the card to you in no time... check this link to order one if you want a steal of a deal.

Thanks for the recommendations......Wolf do you happen to know if the 6800 OC from outpost comes with the copy of farcry......i've seen that that is included on other sites but they have it priced at 299...maybe thats why and i dont see anything on outpost mentioning it

Thanks for the correction, I have a bad memory for things.

I do not think Farcry is included in that package (I think BFG has two packages... one with, and one without... this is the "without" as far as I can tell).

Never buy a graphics card based on the software bundle... this is a hardware purchase, and if you're comparing apples to apples, a $250 6600GT doesn't compare to a $250 6800 (especially if you unlock the extra pipes on the 6800).

I don't think you're going to get Farcry with any of the 6600GTs for $250 anyways, but if Farcry is important, I think Walmart sells it for $29 bucks! 😉

I'm just trying to help other folks out... I didn't know about the Outpost.com deal when I bought my card... I paid $250 from Chumbo.com for the BFG 6600GT... don't get me wrong... I love my card; but I would have prefered to have a BFG 6800 for the same price!

Don't spend $250 for a 6600GT if you can get a 6800 for the same price!

Thanks a lot i'm heading off to get some sleep now.....i've decided to either go with the BFG 6800 OC from outpost for 250 or i might just go with a Leadtek 6600GT for $214.....anandtech also gave that card the best rating for the 6600's so i'll have to decide on price....thnaks for all the help.

Just remember that's a $35 price differance to go from 8-pipes to 16-pipes (with a software tweak). The Leadtek is a nice card too, and at least it's a bit cheaper, but do consider what the minimal price differance will mean in performance.

I personally wish I had the choice to do over. I love my BFG 6600GT, but I'd love it even more if it was a 6800 for the same price!
