Have you tried a clean install of the drivers, and testing the card in another PC? There's still hope that it's a software issue.

EDIT: Nvm, just noticed you reinstalled Windows. It's probably heat related, make sure the heatsink is making good contact with the core. I don't think the 2D would be working fine if the card were dying, it's probably just overheating and causing artifacts when stressed by 3D apps.

I believe it's heat that causes the crash. I was playing FEAR today; after about 30 minutes in my well-ventilated case, the PC crashed. Mind you, I was overclocked to 460/1150 on my 7800GT, but no other game has pushed my card that hard that it has crashed the whole system!

This game is very demanding on the system, and pushes video cards very hard. If you're running at stock clockspeed, then my only suggestion is to either get better case ventilation, or better cooling on your card. I will be installing an NV Silencer 5 on my card this weekend - my friend has one on his GT and his load temps are about 25C less than mine.

Sounds heat related to me, I had similar problems with my AGP X700 and BF2 on max settings. Although, I don't hjave much experiance with nVidia cards, so.. I can't imagine much difference. If I were you I'd get something other than the stock cooler on there while you're at it.

Yeah, my X800 GTO was hitting 95 celcius while playing FEAR. Had to buy a couple of case fans to cool that b1tch off.

Wow, I thought I was the only one this happened to! I played the F.E.A.R demo and suddenly my computer blackscreened. When I rebooted, there were lines and artifacts everywhere. Driver reinstalls didn't fix it, neither did a format and fresh install of Windows. I'm giving up and buying a 6800GS.

The strange thing is, with the default Windows XP drivers, there is no artifacting on the desktop. As soon as I install any kind of Nvidia drivers, artifacts go everywhere, even in 2D applications :(

My 6600GT was an Albatron whereas yours was a Leadtek though.

My Leadtek was dangerously hot. I put a VF700-Cu and some tall copper ramsinks on it and now it's cooler than the other side of the pillow.

that happened to me with one of my many 9800 pro's, left it running a 3d screensaver and went to the pub, came home about twelve hours later and it was artifactland ;) Even the boot splash looked screwed, on several different pc's, windows icons messed up, artifacts in games. Something just must have burnt out i guess.

Yeah, I put Chronicles of Riddick on Pause after a few hours of playing it. I was gone less than 5 minutes in the bathroom and when I came back my comp was rebooting. Windows looked fine, but as soon as I tried playing ANY game there was artifacts everywhere. I RMA'd to Newegg and got a X800XL. (Now I got a 7800gt).

The odd thing is that before chronicles of Riddick I never had a problem with it...
