hey i have a reasonably new system with a 6600GT(bought this as im waiting for prices to drop on the 7800GTX, but that doesn't matter for now)

anyway my system specs are as follows

AMD 64 3800+
2 GB Corsair Ram
XFX 6600GT
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe

anyway i feel that my card is underperforming, is there anyway i can find out and more importantly how do i fix it if it is??

Cheers Tom

Try benching it using 3D Mark '03 and using the ORB to try to compare your score to similar hardware configs.

I hate to be the negative one, but you have a high-end system with a cheap video card.

I'd recommend an X800XL at least, & if you have a 1600x1200 monitor or larger, a 7800 would be great.

For comparison from my old benches (about 3 months ago, everything @ stock):
AMD 64 3200+ (Winchester)
1 GB Patriot Ram
XFX 6600GT
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
71.84 drivers

Aquamark 53740
3DMark03 8094
3DMark05 3486

Currently running:
See rig below in sig (Same stuff OCed)
77.76 video drivers and current ForceWare drivers

Aquamark 65227
3DMark03 9806
3DMark05 4189

Actually, it's not. Given that I run a multi-use system and I have around 45 processes running in the background after boot, I'm doing well. (It's not a SLi system, just a single card.)

Ouch, 45 processes? I have like 25 running after full boot... this includes AV and firewall. 120MB of RAM is used for caching, rest of my 1GB is free. I get around 8100 3D Mark '03 stock with a Gigabyte 6600GT and Sempron 3300+ 2GHz... I can get nearly 10K with OC'ed Sempron to 2.6GHz and 6600GT @ 600/1200.

i have the same IDENTICAL card as u do, and had the SAME problem.... it took me a little over a week to solve

when i had the problem i was recieving around 1000 in 3dmark05, after i solved the problem i got 3500 in 3dmark05... big difference

im running an asus k8v-x and 3200+ NC with 2x512 corsair value ram. hds in raid, and 350watt antec psu, everything else is irrelevent.

the solution: my agp drivers (for the motherboard) werent installed correctly, you have to UNinstall EVERYTHNIG having to do with the motherboard AND video card, (except sound and lan)... then install whatever driver you have that allows agp 3.0 operation, then the latest nvidia drivers, 77.76 i think... dont install riva tuner or anything.

after correctly installing the drivers this card FLYS now... im getting around 40fps on MAXED farcry, bf2, and others (not running fsaa, dont see a point in it)

wally, PM me if u still need help, have same card and there might be details overlooked, (and i dont reat these threads often, 6600GT cought my eye)

Well you don't actually know that it is underperforming, which is your first question.

Download and run 3DMark 2005 - you should get a score around 3200-3600.
If you get a much lower score, then follow some of the advice given in this thread.

If you get about the right score, try another benchmark like Doom3 or something, an post your scores.

yeah ok i did the 3dmark05 and got 3400ish is that about what i should be getting?? it just feels like its not quite hitting its potential in games and photo editing and video editing

yeah i know its a budget crappy video card compared with the rest of my system but i just think it should maybe give abit more than it does

my 6600GT gets 3400ish too when it's not overclocked (specs in sig). when overclocked, I get about 3900 :D!

EDIT: rember that my stock speeds are higher than yours because I have a bfg preoverclocked card.

First off it's not a budget crap card. The 6600GT is a great card for the price.

Second, video cards do nothing in photo editing and video editing.
