6600gt problem

Just got here and of course I run into a problem.

The thing just won't power up.

I'm running:

AMD s939 3200+
1 gig ram
380W PSU (minimum for card is 350)
MSI K8n Neo2 Platinum Motherboard

The LED on the fan goes on for a split second when I power up, but then it just goes off and the fan stops spinning after 1 second. I've reset the CMOS and it still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

edit

No. But then, this is OT, not the Video forum. I'm an expert in spewing BS, not graphics hardware.

Then your a great candidate for the Video forum

Yes, I have power to the video card...

Tried with various of the open power plugs, but still nothing 🙁

have you tried it with the card on its own line with nothing else?

have you pulled it out and reseated it? is your mobo giving you any beep codes?

Yes, tried on it's own line.

Reseated.

About to hook up the usb diagnostic thing that came with the motherboard...

Have you tried a different power header from the PSU? Also have you tried unplugging power from all other devices in the system and just leaving the mobo/RAM/Video card in the system?
El Cheapo PSU?
Did the system work before the 6600gt or are you just guessing its the 6600gt?

Works fine with 9600xt.

PSU was included with my Antec Sonata case. It's an Antec 380W psu.

it works fine

yours is most likely a PCI-E.

Hook up the POST code reader thingy you got. If it gives you an error like 26 or something then it video related.

wtf, post reader thing doesn't seem to give me any feedback.

I do notice a beep when a successful boot occurs (with my 9600xt), but it doesn't beep when I try with the 6600gt. :S

I posted a good response in the thread in Video or whereever, but since this is OT ill basically write what I wrote there:

PLUG THE POWER INTO YOUR VID CARD SO IT WORKS, RETARD!

Power's been in since the first time I booted with it, cockmongrel.

Have you tried clearing CMOS when you put the 6600gt in?....that would be the last thing I would try before sending the card back.
