6600GT Not Playing Well With Others...

Posted this on another forum, just thought I'd see if anyone here had any ideas:

Installed a 6600GT AGP, and it works great. Added a 5200PCI and the whole works blows up. I can sort of get the 5200 to work if I set PCI as primary, but it 'infinite loops' on me pretty often, while the AGP doesn't work at all. If I set the AGP as primary, it crashes on startup with an infinite loop. I think the drivers that came with the card are 66** series, but I can't use anything older since they don't cover the 6600 cards. I've tried all possible combination of BIOS settings, and have even gone so far as re-installing WinXP. Any ideas at all would be HUGELY appreciated.

By the way, I had the same setup working great with a ParheliaAGP and 2x Matrox G450PCI's. The NVIDIA's just don't want to work no matter what. I really don't want to give up my third monitor just so I can game a little, but I'm getting really fed up messing with it.

Thanks guys.

Oh, btw:
MSI Master2FAR w/ 2x Opteron246
4GB RAM
XFX GeForce 6600GT AGP
PNY GeForce 5200 PCI
Chaintech GeForce 5200 PCI
(Same problem with all combinations of above cards)
Nothing OC'd, all stock tunings.

I think its a windows thing for the 5200 its not supported with the new nvidia drivers try the old 56.72
i took out my 6800ut put in my old PNY pci 5200 UNINSTAL ALL NEW DRIVERS FIRST . IM USING WINDOW XP .
5200 is running fine then i down loaded 52.76 drivers o.k set it to refresh to 70Hz popped in my 6800ut they both work fine.
why do you want to this. the 6000 series drivers are better.and the 5200 is a dog of a card. same set up except 1gb ram. rofl

Master2-FAR owners unite! 😀 This is a sweet budget dually board IMO, but I haven't played with AGP+PCI so you will have to follow rpm's advice.

rpm,

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't tried those drivers, since the 6600 series cards aren't supported that far back. Any idea if there's a modded .inf for that set somewhere? The reason I'm even messing with all this is I'm running three monitors, and they all need to run off their own card since I need to hardware calibrate all three. I was running a Parhelia and 2x G450's, but the performance was severely lacking. I went with the 5200's since it seemed to be the fastest PCI cards I could find without spending a fortune. I had actually given up and put the 450's back in with the 6600. For some reason, it seems to be working pretty well, but it's still VERY laggy on those two monitors. I'll take what I can get for now. Maybe I'll give your idea a try if I can find a modded .inf. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

BTW, I LOVE the Master2FAR! This board rocks! 😀

Would anyone be willing to mod an .inf file from the 56.72 version to support a 6600 GT? Or if anyone knows some good resources to learn how to do it myself, that'd work too... thanks!

[edit]
Gonna post this in Video instead of here. Mod, please delete if necessary. Thanks.

let me know how you make out. i tried your set up using three monitors with just the 56.72 it s running fine.
but i dont no what your looking for in speed . what i consider o.k might not be good for you.

I've been unable to try them without a modded .inf since they don't support the 6600 series. 🙁 I'm pretty close to giving up and just leaving the G450's in there. However, I'd definitely rather have the two 5200's.

I asked a friend who likes to play with modded drivers if he could help but it wont be until mid january. He is on vacation til then.
have a merry xmass and a happy newyear.
