6600GT installation problem

Just bought a 6600GT from a friend. But I'm having a hard time getting the drivers to work. I'm not exactly sure whats going on. The card works just fine without the nvidia drivers (the power connector is in and im able to boot just fine) but when it comes to installing in the drivers all i get is a black screen AFTER the usual XP logo. It doesn't send me to the desktop, just a blank screen. I have to eventually go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers for me to get back into my normal windows session. Anyone can give any reasons on why this is occuring? thx in advance!

EDIT: I've tried both old and new drivers from Nvidia, even tried XtremeG forceware drivers, omega drivers and i've also used different molex connectors. I'm just about out of options. Anyone got any advice? 🙁

yes but its disabled. i was using a 9600xt before the 6600GT. I'm beginning to think my psu isn't enough. I really thought a 400w+ was gonna be enough for a 6600GT

a billzillion times. On every driver install i did. My xp install is almost 2 yrs old, so it has built up alot of garbage during that time. Im gonna format and see if this helps.

you psu looks good

when i had that problem it was my onboard graphics

did you disable onboard graphics in the bios and set agp as default ?

I don't now?

Is your blank screen black or the color of your desktop?

its black....... i did a full format and it seemed to have fixed the problem. I was able to install in the latest drivers flawlessly.
