6600GT 95* core temp?

I havent checked what this card was doing lately (it used to hit ~80 IIRC with 3dmark and the like), but something about eve online (when the lights pan up and down in a station) really kicks this cards ass. It was hitting 95 over and over, but in game was ~75.

I thought this high of a temp was "not good" but I've been playing this game for nearly 10 days and havent had any problems whatsoever. The card seems to handle things pretty well actually. Time for some more case fans I guess?

IIRC temperatures that high were not all that uncommon on the Geforce 6 series - I know that my old 6800GT used to hit 105°C in games before I reseated the heatsink with AS5 and dusted it a bit. Even then, temps only dropped to 90-95C...

Besides cleaning out the dust, both in the video card cooler and in your case fans, didn't some 6600GT cards have issues where the cooler wasn't making proper contact? I seem to recall this problem even on new cards, where a simple reseat (with fresh compound) made a decent difference.

Zalman VF-700 (All Copper)

And don't look back.

If you have an AGP card, google and make sure that the VF-700 will work on it. I was getting temps of about 90C in some games on my Leadtek 6600gt (AGP) until I replaced the HSF with the Aluminum/Copper VF-700 and some Arctic Silver 5. I have never seen temps above 65C since then.

Cool, thanks guys.

Yes, I remember reading about that when I was looking at different cards. I dont think mine was one of the notorious ones, but you never know. I'll check it out.

Damn, you can use it as a stove or as a heater, quite convenient for this cold winter jeje. Try to reseat the cooler and use some good quality thermal compound like the Silver Something, I forgot hehe 😛

Learn to link buddy.
Proper link

And that would be a good solution.
But the vf-900 would be even better. Plus the vf-900 would do you more good on a newer card if you decided to upgrade.
