6600GT 128mb vs 6600gt 256mb

Hey guys, this may be a rather quick answer in it self because the price difference is not too big. In fact, just $10..and I'll probably just pay the extra to get the 6600GT 256mb, but what do you guys think of this model??

I'm sure the extra ram in there wouldn't hurt, but any experiences to shed light on the topic??

Oh yeah, btw, the 6600GT 256mb is going for $169.99 shipped(with a stinkin $10 mail in rebate making it 159.99) whereas the 128mb version is going for $159.99 shipped. Yeah, only ten dollars..same if you include the MIR, but you know how they are, takes time, etc. etc. so as far as I'm concerned they are $10 a part in price.

For that small a difference i'd grab the 256mb. But realistically you're gunna see no difference with a 6600GT and twice the ram, it might help out in situations where you're at such a low fps that it's totally irrelevant, thats all.

I've used both a 9600xt(with 256mb) and 9550 (128mb at 9600XT speeds) and there was no difference i could tell, no lags, nothing (and this was mid-2005 playing latest games).

BUt to return to what i said, no harm in grabbing the extra ram for such a small difference...

If the memory is running at the same speed on both, $10 for an extra 128MB isn't a bad deal. But if the card with more RAM is running it at a lower speed (some manufactuers do this to save money), it's probably better to take the 128MB one. A 6600GT isn't going to see much benefit having 256MB of RAM.

nvm...i'm a sucker I'm going to just go ahead and order a 6800GS for only $30 more.. sucks how things work, haha, money gets spent easily.

how about a 6800GS. i saw one on newegg for 199. i know thats an extra 30 bucks, but it might prove to be more futureproof. Theres an article some where on anandtech. It seems to really performs well. Plus you can overclock it. About the RAM speed, it should use DDR3. If im not mistaken, most DDR3 comes from the same place(samsung) right?? so, you'll definitely get quality RAM.

I was actually thinking about recommending that... it should be a big step up in performance.

nice, yes, I agree with you both, infact, if you see my post right before okay turtle, you'll see that I've decided to go that route too, I figure why not? roughly 20%
gains in power for roughly 20% increase in price, not bad.
