I own a cyber cafe and i was gonna upgrade all 40 computers wanted to spend only 100 each video card and was wondering what would be the better choice there gonna be playing counter strike and cs source mostly.

what would be better 6600 or the 9600xt there both 128 and around 100 dollars.

any input would be wonderfull thnx again much appreciated!

I haven't kept up lately... if there actually is a vanilla 6600 AGP for a reasonable price, I'd lean towards that

6600 - it has 8 render pipes compared to 4 on the 9600XT. However, if it's AGP then there aren't that many 6600's to choose from as most of them are PCI-E. I think Newegg as a nice ASUS AGP version going quite cheap tho...

At least spend the money and get the GT. I hate it when "cyber-cafes" equip their computer with low end hardware. If you have to up your rates to get the 6800's.

So you're giving him a hard time for not spending almost double to get GTs?

What do you expect from a cafe? You want them to spend $400 a pop on the leaf blower de jour which will just be an annoyance in 6 months?

They're playing CS, not Doom 3, and I doubt they're even going above 1024x768. The plain 6600 will be a great card for them.

The Radeon X700 is approx. equal to a 6600 card. Several brands can be found for ~$120, refurbished, at newegg. However, newegg does limit the quantities on the refurbished items.
Edit: the X700 is PCI-e only, at present.

WEll at least equip 3-4 computers with 6800GT's. Those with the 6800GT's would be the "hardcore" computers or something. For people that want to play Doom 3 multiplayer or something.

Shader 3.0 is far overrated and most games don't take advantage of it. If you're going to decide between two cards, Shader 3.0 is not something that should be the deciding factor.

ATI has 2.0 pixel shader. Keep in mind that the x700 and 6600 are close in performance numbers, but the 6600 blows it away in Doom 3 and some other games. A positive thing about the x700 is that it runs very efficient and cool. The actual difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is very slim. In fact, pixel shader 3.0 is a upgrade of 2.0
