I have an eVGA 6600 GT, and it has worked fine for about 5 monthes, but all of a sudden, I come home from work today, and my computer is frozen in the screen saver, which is just pictures, my comp is supposed to go to sleep after 20 min inactivity, well anyway, I reboot a little worried, and now Windows is all streaky. I uninstalled the drivers, and it went away, but upon reinstalling the CD drivers, not the newest, it has the lines again, not sure what is causing it, but it is pissing me off. The lines don't appear until the windows login screen, so I think it's the drivers, but... Never had any problems like this before. The computer is as old as the video card and is:
My New Rig:
Chaintech vnf 4 Ultra
Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939
2 Gb Corsair Value PC3200 RAM
eVGA nVidia 6600 GT
NVsilencer 6
120 Gb Maxtor DiamondMax plus 9
Logysis 550 Watt Glacier Moded Power Gamer
NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive

Here is a snap of what it looks like, but I'm not sure if the lines are in the pic or on the screen, hope it works:

I hate to say it but if the Silencer wasn't making full contact withc the chip, that heat problem might have been harmed to no end. Do you still have the original HSF?

somewhere in my mess of stuff, should I try putting it on, I used alot of the goo that came with it, while mashing it down, it spread around good, I figured it was making contact, and after initial install ofthe silencer, the card ran cooler than before.

btw the card is running at 45 C

Okay check and make sure the goo didn't go anywhere else. Some shipped "goo" is conductive and could be part of the problem use rubbing or polysomethingorother Alchohol to clean it up if nessisary.

My TI4600 card started to have vertical lines on the screen after I played CS source for hours, it recovered after updating the driver first time, but a few days later, it had the same provblem after another session of Counter strike.

I sent it for a local store to check it as the warranty expired already, and they told me that overheating caused permanent damage to the card.

I had to buy another one in the end, so send your card for RMA asap and get a replacement. Good luck :)

Luckily I wil be traveling to TX after next week for 12 days for work, so that will give them some time to work on it and get it back to me :).
