66-inch water main bursts near my house/work

I was watching CNN as they try to rescue people from cars. The one guy was trying to get in the basket with the water rushing by and the helicopter caused wind making the situation worse. If he had slipped he would have gone downstream quick !
They keep repeating this has to be more than a water main, must be something else, but nope, just a water main, although a very big one .

Article says 60 inch....

This article says 96. So it's somewhere between 60 inches and 96 inches.

Montgomery County (web | news) Police confirm that they received a call at 7:55 a.m. for a break in a 96-inch water main break near the Congressional Country Club.

That explains why the water line is so big. It has to be to run all the sprinklers 🙂

I can't think of a place that needed a good douche worse than DC...😀

or

Hey, the place needs to be flushed once in a while to get rid of all the turds...

Heh, I heard about this on WTOP on the way home from work while I was on the Beltway and half-expected to see the River Rd exit flooded. Figured it was just a local story...must be a slow day for national news.

That or River Road wanted to be more truthful about itself.

That water must be doing 60+

Yeah, I couldn't view any video at work, but once I got home I checked out some vids. That water was BOOKING IT. I'd be scared shitless if I had to get myself into a rescue basket with water rushing around me like that.

I would have hopped out of the car and rode the water down the hwy.

Not exactly like a river, the flow has to slow and end somewhere.

It wasn't deep and would have been a blast... as long as I didn't get plastered up against another car or anything. 🙂

Yeeeeeah, not so much. Water is more powerful than you think. You'd be smacked around like a ragdoll on the pavement. Good luck getting out of that without any broken limbs.

Or hyperthermia.
