I was checking out 9550 prices on ebay and I ran across a 65w 9550 and I was wondering if this is legit. It is up to $371 right now and has 7 hours left on the auction. It has an SSPEC of SLGAE and is supposedly for HTPCs. Any info?

on ebay it is Item number: 220305372047

I dont see that spec on that link, anyways I would think if there was a 65 q9550 it would be a big deal. The guy on ebay claims it is not anywhere on the intel roadmap and he has pretty good feedback so I dont really know what is up.

There are 65w quads but I don't believe they are available in the retail channel yet.

Update: I Googled 65w q9550 and I found that apparently these are q9550's with VIDs under 1.08 or 1.10v. Only 2 links to hardforum and overclockers.net came up. I can't find any solid info on why there is no info from Intel on these. Possibly their launches were canceled when i7's release was pushed up or something. I would really like to get my hands on one of these bad boys if at all possible for a reasonable price. 4GHz with 1.3 volts sounds fantastic.

So how would one go about getting their hands on one of these 65w bad boys? Are they going to be released as a retail line or what?

that sounds cool. Let us know if anyone here do acquire it. Although with the premium, i7 920 would be a better buy. Of course you'd need new board/ram everything.

As in, no fan? I wouldn't try that with a 65W dual let alone a quad...but then again, I also don't get freebie chips to play around with either.

I too saw that 65W Q9550. "These are an "off roadmap" processor. It was created for the sole purpose of working with Intel's new "Fly Creek" motherboard (mini-ITX HTC enthusiast board)."

By the way...I won the bid. It's going in my Asus Maximus Formula. This should be interesting.

Welcome to the forums, Kelbin! Let us know how that cpu works out for you.

Aigo, that's one nifty looking setup you've got there. But not what I would call "passive" cooling for the cpu, if you have the fan turned on, anyway.

aigo doesn't do things half-assed, that's for sure. I would consider it "passively cooled" if there's not a fan on cpu heatsink.

no fans...

Just straight passive heat sink of that large mass.

I suppose you just don't that big fan that's in the middle of the heatsink hooked up? Cause it's a big one with orange blades...

thats an old setup.

Freya <--- computer being shown to you.

when i was using it to bench air.

ultimately i got sick tired of its performance... or lack of is a better word. Remember im the forum's water expert. :p

it looks like this now. [excuse my toe]

Gpu later watercooled. :p

Final resting spot would be a ultra low wattage quad + 9800GT passive on a antec phantom psu.

She also uses a 4 notebook hard drive raid 0 array. :p im aiming at uber fast uber quiet pc on that final build.

My definition of passive is an IFX-14 on an open bench. :p

Like this in a sense:
http://i125.photobucket.com/al...aigomorla/IMG_1123.jpg

I used the mini scynthe without fan with my HTPC AMD X2 4000+ 65watts
It works fine.

Is 65watts quad out for the public yet? If not when will it be out?
Will I ever see it on sale for about 100 bucks?

That is one sick 65W part. Even w/o overclocking it's plenty of firepower for just about anything.

Heh, another ITX board to look forward to. Wonder if it will be affordable, and if it will have PCIe x16.

I've run an Athlon 64 x2 3800+ s939 and Core 2 Duo E6750 passively using a Scythe Ninja. Oh yeah, both CPUs were overclocked too. :D Worked just fine! It probably wasn't running just above ambient temps, but as long as it doesn't overheat, I don't obsess.
